looking 4 any suggestions as to 'cheaper' places to eat in london. We're staying at the Norfolk Tower Hotel. Don't mind distance to a place as long as its reasonable food/prices and not too far from the hotel. Any suggestions from people who have been in and around the area before?? TIA
Walk then look...............walk then look.................walk then look ...........Londons not at all like Wombwell
Leicester square has a weatherspoons. Just down from the cinemas. Think there is a Yates next door. Same prices as up here.
The Wetherspoons in Leicester Square is slightly expensive than what it up north from what I remember. Think thats only with drinks. Never eaten there. Best place for cheaper places to eat are the small streets off the main areas. There used to be a deep pan pizza place off Piccadilly Circus that was fairly cheap but seems to have closed down. Nevertheless there are still similar places dotted around. Just a matter of being prepared to walk around and around at times.
Norfolk Tower eh? Me and the other half stayed there 2 years ago. I will warn you not to expect much from the hotel, apart from the bar below which was advertised as the cheapest pint in London. Pint of Carling Cold at £1:80 a pint i would think it was!!</p> There was an Aberdeen Angus Steakhouse on the road from the Hotel to the Tube Station and also a nice quiet little pub just round the corner from there which was nice food and reasonably priced </p>
Strada... underneath The Festival Hall on other side of Thames just down from the London Eye. Am going to London soon for a few days and will going there. Italian food not bad price. There's also Giraffe and a couple of others there too
Covent Garden Grille 3 courses £15 I can personally recommend it... http://www.coventgardengrill.com/html/specials.htm
Ate in La Tasca in covent garden on saturday they have a few special offers on at moment and sometimes you can get two for one deals if you look on Martin Lewis's site for vouchers
RE: Ate in La Tasca in covent garden on saturday Mate, I've worked in London for years. It's fairly easy to find a good meal at a reasonable price by asking people. I know they say Londoners are an unfriendly bunch and it's true, many are. However most (at least those that speak english) will happily give you good advice if you ask them. My advice would be to stay away from the gastro pubs and as others have said look for smaller back street pubs with a food sign outside. If you fancy very cheap but very tasty street food, get yourself up to Camden market. There's row upon rows or stalls selling chinese, asian and oriental food. £5 will get a large tray of rice and whatever topping you want. In fact Camden is fairly cheap all over. Even the soup kitchens will serve you so if you fancy a free bowl, PM me. Most of the big markets have good street venders selling quality food. If anyone is coming down here and looking to take the Mrs out for a meal at a very nice but affordable resturant, you can't go wrong with Rules. It is one of the oldest establishments in London and the food is very British, very fricking good and the suroundings haven't been changed since the early part of last century. It's gorgeous. £25 a head is dooable but budget for a bit more if you can. Just google it.
