My first match for a couple of months, had forgotten how bad we can be. 2nd half was much better but on balance we deserved to lose. My ratings, in descending order of awfulness:

Carbon (1) - height = 6'2", headers won = 0. Chicken-hearted shitehawk who couldn't outjump Joey Deacon.
Colgan (3) - glue on the goal line? Good to see he's recaptured his old Dundee Utd form. The lovely person.
Shuker (3) - needs to spend some time getting his confidence back in the Under-11s.
Devaney (3) - he was playing, apparently.
Reid (4) - painfully slow, all big booit and ignorance. One headband does not a Terry Butcher make.
Nardiello (4) - 'looking for space' or running away from the ball? Either way he's crap.
Austin (5) - didn't do a lot wrong. Or right.
Richards (5) - struggled to make anything out of shocking service.
McParland (6) - appears to be excellent at running fast in a straight line.
Kay (6) - played out of position, did okay considering.
Wright (7) - looked pretty sharp when he came on.
Howard (7) - some decent passing in the second half.
McPhail (7) - ditto.
Hayes - wasn't on long enough to make much of an impact. Should've been.

(PS. to the songsmiths - surely it should be 'knocking the FRONT out of Kevin Betsy'?)

Nardiello (4) - 'looking for space' or running away from the ball?

That suggests movement - not something that Nardiello is well known for.

**** me.

Gets two game in a row. 1 he plays excellent and the 2ns not very well (although in these ratings he gets higher than most)

Just give the lad a break. When he has played regularly for the reds he has done well. He has his faults, i.e being offside and not tracking back enough but so have the other. In fact, give me a goal scorer in Nads anyday over a hard working Hayes who can't hit a cows ar*e with a banjo.

Definitely more entertaining than 'Garth Crooks' team of the week'.

'Chicken-hearted shitehawk' is now my favourite phrase. I'm going to use it at least three times today. Starting with my boss.

He's hit the cows arse 11 times this season

making him our top scorer. when we need to hold onto the ball in away games, Nardiello is pants. he's good when we're at home and have loads of possession and can wait for the 1 chance he gets in 10 where he's not offside, but away from home we need Hayes. simple as.

I like Hayes, good player, but

I'm struggling to remember any other Barnsley forward that made more than 30 league starts in a season and only scored 6 goals. Even Rammel and Saville used to get more than that. Nardiello has only started 8 and scored 4.

Yeah - and hes started all but 5 league games and only scored 6. Nads got that many in the last 9 games at the end of last year.

Strikers are there to score. Hayes isn't isnt a target man and never will be, so your long ball approach to away games will not work.

We are 4th in the league, so why change the way we play away from home. Negativity does not work. We need to play to our strengths and Hayes shouldn't be first choice.....

Our success this season

is based on a team playing for each other. as much as I agree that Nardiello is our best finisher, he contributes little when we dont have the ball, and in away games, when we're looking to keep it tight, he gives possession away too cheaply. Hayes has scored 11 and created probably the same. his first touch and close control is a league above and his all round game for me means he'd start every time. and if we need a goal and a bit of pace, by all means bring Nardiello on with 30 mins left.

I reckon that has much more to do with the loss of Burns and Hassell, plus Kay has been moved out of central defence.

Probably

not going to harp on about missing out on an experienced midfield replacement, but if we are going with what we've got, without Burns, I'd prefer the front 2 to work back and help out more. as DH will vouch, 6 X 0-1 will do at this stage.

Pretty much agree with the order

Though I would have moved Colgan up above Devaney and Shuker. Dont really think he could do much about any of the goals. but didnt do much else either

At least they didnt get the "Barnsley are White"

chant going like one moron was trying to do.

Then tried to justify it by saying "well we are arent we"

Why have Mcphail and Howard got a boost for their 2nd half display and not the rest?

Cheers lad......

Griffin Park hasn't been the best of grounds for us, has it?

Colgan

Agree about the goals, but he was woeful in general. In the first few minutes he fumbled a shot so feeble it might have been a back-pass. His communication with the centre-halves was non-existent and he seemed to be terrified to come off his line. Strangely lacking in confidence for a guy who's had such a good season.

RE: At least they didnt get the "Barnsley are White"

Surely an ironic reference to the racial segregation non-story of a few days ago? 'Our boys' are nothing if not topical.

McPhail and Howard were marked up because a) I felt they were less culpable than most in the first half shambles (being largely bypassed by Reid's panic-stricken hoofs upfield) and b) the main reason we played better second half was because they were orchestrating the game from midfield.
