This sums up how you could give Conor Grant a 4, when he came on he was very good.

 

Very generous for Roberts.

 

Thought Connell was poor mate (but not on his own tbf). Grant had more impact in 20 minutes which says it all.

MDG was playing them on his own for a while - clearing it, heading it, passing out from the back and running forward with it.

Of the others only Earl and the first 2 subs showed up.

A handful or more of decent players from last season have regressed quite significantly over time. Why I don't know. But we've finished this season dreadfully and with little cause for future optimism.

 

Thought Phillips hid from the ball too often. This affected Williams’ ability to play it forward quickly or at all. Therefore he dwelled on the ball and this cost us.

I’m not saying Williams had the best game ever, he didn’t. But having watched from the West Stand, the lack of forward options to him put him under pressure which lead to mistakes.

 

I thought Phillips was dreadful tonight. I’m shocked he’s getting rated so high. Would’ve given him a 1 for the shot. Other than that he was their best player.

and so frustrating that with performances like that they still only beat us cos we gave them 2 goals.

 

This proper tickled me, not sure why but it cracked me up.

The missus asked what I was laughing at and I just said "a funny picture" rather than trying to explain it.

Roberts (2)
Played his part in two of the goals. After a promising start to his Barnsley career I honestly think we can find a better keeper in the summer.

Williams (2)
I actually thought he started the game quite well. Shocking defending for the pen and then was a liability from then on.

Mael (5)
Average performance. He carried the ball out well at times. Think he’ll look a lot better if we can get better defenders in the team around him.

Earl (5)
Still not the player we first saw after he signed but didn’t do a great deal wrong today.

Cadden (3)
Poor player having a poor season. Let him go end of the season. Shocking the board allowed him to be our only choice at LWB after Dodgeson was recalled.

O Keefe (5)
I actually thought he had one of his better game today. He offered something going forwards that said he’s still a poor player and a defensive liability.

Connell (6)
Still not at his best but certainly one of the better players on the pitch.

Kane (1)
Clearly doesn’t want to be here. Was soft, slow, disinterested and gave the ball away too much. Wouldn’t even have him in the squad Tuesday.

Phillips 6
had one of our two shots on target and were it not for a good save it would have been a great equaliser. I would also liked to have seen where his thunderous blocked shot might have gone.

Cole (0)
Easy to give him a 0 because he did nothing. No press, no closing down. No runs, no effort, no strength. Genuine waste of a shirt. Again I wouldn’t have him in the squad Tuesday the sooner he’s released the better.

McAtee (3)
He gives a few good interviews and runs about. But he’s the definition of a headless chicken. He’s likeable and tries but lacks any ability or quality.

Cosgrove (7)
I actually thought he played really well from the moment he came on. Knock Santos about quite a-bit and made some good runs. Nice first time finish for the goal. Has to start Tuesday. Surprisingly underrated player IMO.

Grant (7)
His best performance for us and looked good when he came on. Made himself available. Offered good movement and picked out Cosgrove well for the goal. Also deserves a start on Tuesday and maybe a permanent deal.

Overall there were some good spells tonight unfortunately overshadowed by horrific defending. I actually enjoyed the game. Atmosphere was good in parts. Highlighted what a build overhaul we need in the summer though.

 

Cole a 0 but Roberts and Williams a 2? Williams and Roberts cost us the game.
