If Don gave you the approval to sign 5 players who are currently available or being released by their current clubs, who would it be?

    Mine are:

Luke Chambers - Centre half - Notts Forest (expected to be released but not yet)
Nicky Ajose - Forward - Peterborough - was hot property before being signed by Posh, maybe another Keith could turn around?
Marko Futacs - Forward - Pompey - looks a good, strong player when I've seen him. Only young too - wages probably an issue.
Grant McCann - Midfielder - Posh - I thought he was a decent player when we had him, but seems to have got better since.
Richard Keogh - Defender - Coventry City - one of their best players and what I'd championship standard.

I've generally gone for players from our league as I think Hill will look for a few experienced heads to go with some younger, unproven lads.

Obviously, if I had my way I'd also sign Mustapha Carayol and a creative midfielder (like Gary Roberts - Huddersfield), but maybe we already have that coming through the youth team? I'd also include someone like Stuart Beavon on the list - seems a decent player.

    Allowing for the fact

That none of us know what budget is available to the manager, I believe that if any Championship experienced players are brought in, they will probably be from clubs at the lower end of the league table, even from the relegated clubs. Just from pure guesswork, I'd expect us to be looking at the likes of Richard Wood, Richard Keogh, Brian Stock & Marcus Tudgay.

    A right back

that can defend. And I'll be reasonably happy.

Wouldn't mind seeing Lee Collins there, looked good at left back and a defender first.

I know quite a few Coventry fans are they all think he's garbage! Also made of glass.

I think the likes of Stock and Coppinger should be under consideration if they fit the budget.

I couldn`t afford to pay a player a weeks wages so wont be buying any for the foreseeable future.

    For me

I'd like to see Richard Keogh, think he's a quality centre half, but I reckon he'd be out of our budget.

It's not long since McCann was being linked with top end championship clubs, another one out of our budget.

Personally i'm not convinced over Futacs and Ajose

And I know very little about Chambers and Carayol

As someone says above, Sammy Clingan, experienced midfielder, still only in his late 20's and isn't expected to stay at Coventry, think he'd be a great addition.

dont want to sound too negative but we all know deep down that the calibre of player that we will bring in this summer wont be much to write home about

I think you're spot on Kev. Personally I'd like to see us sign Coppinger.

I'd love to see Coppinger sign for us, too, mate

Whether it's financially viable or not, though, I don't know.

Aye thats going to be the problem, we're going to have competition for any decent players. Hill has his work cut out this summer.

    Agreed

Which is why I feel if Keith Hill is to recruit some Championship experienced players, they'll probably come from the lower reaches of the league. I also believe we'll bring in some more players from lower down the football pyramid.

A journeyman left back from Ipswich

A head on a stick from a Premier League side

    A defender from a 2nd division side

An unknown East European midfielder plying his trade in the French lower leagues

An equally unknown Trinidad & Tobago winger playing in Portugal's lower leagues.

It would mean securing our best midfielder on a new contract too so the whole plan might collapse....
