i've just been kindly loaned some artifacts from a friend of mine. They are his grandads football playing contracts. His name was George Donkin,he played outside right for barnsley and england.his first contract was for the season 1913-1914,his wage was £2.00 per week.the following season he was re-signed and paid 2 quid a week april to august then for the remainder of the season 3 quid a week plus a railway pass from cudworth station to barnsley station..
there is a break then in his contract till 1919 (which i assume is for the first world war)..things must have been looking up after WW1 because his contract for this season was for £6 week (& railway pass).
there are contracts right up untill the 1924-1925 season, where he was then earning £6 per week, but when picked for the first team that rose to £8.,and at the end of this season he recieved a payment of £250 from the football league.
The contracts are just 2 pages long, and very basic,,but real interesting,,I cant imagine what a current players' contract looks like, its probably as thick as the Sunday times!
I've also got 2 of his england caps and a several photos,if i can fathom out how to post some of it on here i will if anyones interested..

You could donate them to the BFC Museum.

Oh hold on a minute. Someone changed their mind.

Turvey Tyke would definitely be interested in this, given that he's the club historian.

Might be worth dropping him a PM. He's not replied on here, which must mean he's not yet seen it.
