It's becoming more and more frequent for players to have a pop at fans for not getting behind the team and lifting them. In my opinion they're living in the past, those days went when footballers started commanding Rock Star wages and going to a game became extortionate. Football players, especially in the top 2 leagues have become entertainers, and if they don't perform, they should expect to go down as well as a ***** stand up comic in a Northern Working Mans Club. They should be inspiring the crowd and not vice versa. When a team get stuck in, chase things down and demonstrate the committment that should naturally be there, then you hear the crowd lift. The knock on effect is the team lift again and success can be achieved. Players who moan because the crowd are on a downer should have a long hard look at themselves and ask themselves why that is. When you pay the prices asked at football grounds nowadays, you're entitled to see players be arsed. The football audience only get upset when they see lack of effort and desire on the pitch. I wonder if that stand up comic has a dig at his audience when he doesn't go down well ? or do you think he will re-assess his material. Just get on with it boys, show heart and a desire to succeed and listen to the crowd, it aint rocket science.
yes we pay our money and alot of it , but we SUPPORT our team through whatever is put in front of us , yes it may not be pretty some times and scrapy but thats what comes with being a football fan you cant have it perfect every week , my point being hang the boo boys and the rest get behind the team no matter what .
If it's obvious a player isn't even trying to play for the team you love. If it's obvious he doesn't give a **** if we win or lose. If it's obvious they just can't be arsed ........... you'd applaud that would you ? If you find players dislike the manager, so lose to get him the sack .... you'd applaud and support them too would you ? THEY are the ones who should shoulder the responsibility of performing. If we lose to a better side, but we tried 100%, but on the day just weren't good enough, the fans would be happy, not happy about the result, but happy about the performance.
Well said ! Fans all around the football world have their say in many ways - Spanish fans fo the gay little white hankie waving and the italian ultras have a quiet word with under performing players.
ODJ to Juve ? the Drughi lot would sort his confidence http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juventus_Ultras

maybe the fragile feckers would prefer to play to an empty stadium without us to put pressure on them how on earth will they sort it out and improve?? Only like my job - if i dont cut the mustard i get a bollocking and the managers will want to know why - im sure the customers would have a go too! I dont boo in games but after the game has finished and its been utter tosh then its every persons right in that ground to let the players know what they think of what they have just paid to see! Anyone that says we should all turn up, tip up and pat them on the back even when they have played ***** are obviously deluded sheep brainwashed by the powers that be at the well.
I agree with you in principle. However, I don't think this can be applied to the booing that happens every week at oakwell. The Booing is 90% aimed at Odejayi and doesn't seem to change no matter how much effort he is putting in. He is a striker that is suffering from a lack of confidence after stepping up to a new level of football and not getting off to a flying start and instead of backing him our fans decide to boo him and destroy any confidence he had left. Even tho he is not scoring at the moment he is consistanly causing more problems to defences than ANY other striker at the club and his lack of goals are certainly not through lack of effort. On the other hand Mostto doesn't seem to care that he isn't even getting in team and his work rate is awful, yet he doesn't get half the abuse that KO does. And i have never heard a bad word about Ricketts, even tho im not sure if he gives 2 sh*ts whether he plays for barnsley again as long as he is gettin paid every week. Booing Odejayi is only adding to his lack of confidence and therefore lack of goals for Barnsley F.C....end of.
"he is consistanly causing more problems to defences than ANY other striker at the club" Is he? I doubt that very much.
surely you go to games to support your team in the hope to be entertained? Fans who say I pay my money, we pay too much do not have to go so why do you to sit they and have a moan and grumble because somoene else you have paid to watch who earns more than you is not playing the best or is not putting in 100% effort, players are not robots and can be expected to have the off day. For me fans that moan about players having a go back act as if they are always at their best at work and never lack effort or have the odd bad day. Putting things in to perspective we are doing better than people thought and the first time we have a slight dip our fickle section get on their back accused iof lacking effort in one or two games despite playing well in the majority of other matches! Go to the game, get behind the team from the off if the players don't respond faqir enough start moaning and grumbling you have done your bit and then the next game do exactly the same get behind the team from the off rather than expecting the team to motivate you because they get paid well! Imagine getting motivated for a game in the dressing room all fired up and then running out to a dead atmosphere. Fans who say they pay their money and expect to be entertain because players get paid well is a poor arguement and an easy one!
RE: surely you go to games to Good post that.
Whilst I can agree with the argument about paying therefore having the right to complain, I go to watch Barnsley, not to be entertained as such, but to see the team I love, and to get behind them. Players will always have off days, but at the same time, with encouragement, players can always perform better than their usual performances.
Clearly good support will have a huge impact on the players, they will play with more confidence and be more inclined to take chances, whereas if the fans are getting on their backs, any mistake will be overly scrutinised - players will play with fear of making a mistake.
However of course its a chicken and egg situation, crowd feeds off the players, players feed off the crowd, both have to do their jobs. When we kick off and the crowd is dead, it already gives us a disadvantage as clearly this will affect the players, they then have to do more to get the crowd going (often to no avail - after we scored against southampton - barely made a sound...cue '1-0 and you still don't sing')

I agree with him The last two games he's caused more problems and done a lot more than Ferenczi yet Ferenczi is the blue eyed boy. Stan was a disgrace at Scunny and if it wasn't for him not aniticipating Odejayi's cross when he beat the keeper to the ball or for Howard to miss a sitter in the second half if would hav ehad 2 assists. With the excpetion of Macken, no other striker has looked any better than Odejayi. However, Coulson looked good at Scunny when he came on.
If Odejayi........... didn't get fouls given against him so much, didn't get give offside so much and made more of his attempts at goal on target, he would be much more liked by the fans.
booing Odejayi is horrendous, getting on his back only makes him worse, lighten up and get behind him, the the only physical exertion the majority of the booers know is trotting to the kebab house on Sheffield road before it shuts, of course clad in Burberry!
It's always gone on surely In the 80's and 90's it used to be the local lads who got it in the neck - Aggie etc - it'll never stop - I agree it is counter productrive but it will never go away
