Players in bold are ones I think will be leaving this summer, I've not included Dike as he's not our player. 9 players in all, only 3 from the 1st team which is manageable in my opinion. Only outlier is Helik, he'll probably go if he performs well in the Euros. Jack Walton Jordan Williams Ben Williams Callum Styles Liam Kitching Mads Andersen Callum Brittain Herbie Kane Cauley Woodrow Conor Chaplin Carlton Morris Luke Thomas Toby Sibbick Romal Palmer Clarke Oduor Aapo Halme George Miller Michael Sollbauer Alex Mowatt Dominik Frieser Victor Adeboyejo Michał Helik Jasper Moon Brad Collins Marcel Ritzmaier Isaac Christie-Davies Patrick Schmidt Elliot Simões Matty Wolfe Jack Aitchison
I've gone the other way. players I'd like us to keep. Mowatt is wishful thinking Jack Walton Jordan Williams Ben Williams Callum Styles Liam Kitching Mads Andersen Callum Brittain Herbie Kane Cauley Woodrow Conor Chaplin Carlton Morris Luke Thomas Toby Sibbick Romal Palmer Clarke Oduor Aapo Halme George Miller Michael Sollbauer Alex Mowatt Dominik Frieser Victor Adeboyejo Michał Helik Jasper Moon Brad Collins Marcel Ritzmaier Isaac Christie-Davies Patrick Schmidt Elliot Simões Matty Wolfe Jack Aitchison
If he only has a year left we probley will if he has 2 we will only sell if we get a decent offer i hope the days of selling decent players for peanuts are gone.
We have Helik, Andersen, Sibbick, Sollbauer, Kitching and Moon. I don't think we need Halme as well. I've definitely said madder things
2023. Yorkshire post 16/10/2020 Woodrow had been the subject of interest from the Bluebirds during the final week of the deadline, but the Welsh outfit - whose valuation of the former Fulham forward was considerably lower that than of Barnsley - pulled out of the race. The 25-year-old is now contracted to the club until the summer of 2023.
It’s not quite town hall steps territory but I think there’s almost zero chance that we start the season with Helik and Madds. One, if not both, will be moved on whilst their value is at its highest. There’s a reason we paid £600k for Kitching.
After one of our best seasons in a while we're on a guessing game of players who will be with us. Hope we can keep hold of who we can and start moving forward. Some players may fail elsewhere but here we have a solid element what could carry us forward with 2 or 3 new additions
I could actually see Walton leaving this Summer. At his age coupled with the fact he's had a previous extended run in the team earlier. He'll not want (I would think) want to play second fiddle much longer. Apart from a couple of errors I thought he was excellent.
Here’s a controversial tin hat like opinion. Our weakest position in the the squad and the starting XI is the goalkeepers……
I'm not sure they're the weakest positions (Collins sweeper-keeper role has saved our bacon a few times), but we absolutely need better shot stoppers, I agree.
Mowatt is a certainty to leave and pretty sure Helik too, especially if he does well at the Euros. With Anderson into the 3rd year of his contract we may also look to accept any decent bids while his stock is high. Reckon Sollbauer will leave too so all of a sudden we could need a couple of centre halves. It’s a position we have a good track record for recruitment. In midfield we’ll have only Palmer, Kane and hopefully Styles so will need at at least one more. Up top DK will be gone but hopefully Woodrow might stay. Morris will still be with us but for me Chaplin and especially Vic need to be moved on if we’re serious about improving the squad. Frieser is a decent squad player to keep. For me we need 2 new forwards and those are the hardest for us to recruit. Should be an interesting summer....
I just look at our players and squad and think a really commanding goalkeeper would make us even stronger defensively. It’s not to say I don’t rate the players we have, or that I’m criticising them really, but if they were put up for sale I think they’d struggle to get a Championship gig. Collins has improved his positional sense of the sweeper keep role brilliantly. But I wouldn’t say he does it well or looks natural with it.
Yeah, when he comes barrelling out and gets to the ball first he gets caught thinking "do I kick it or head it" and it scares me to death, but more often than not he gets it out safely, in a fashion.
Mads we even have a 5th year in our favour so he's still 2-3 seasons left on his contract https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2019/june/andersen2023/
He’s definitely played the role well and a big part in how solid we’ve looked. But I think a more commanding keeper, who knows how to play that role and do better with the ball, makes us stronger. That keeper probably isn’t out there with our budget.
