Coulson Atkinson out on loan , Devaney, Mattis and McCann .Would not want to see McCann go but where can he get in,cannot see him happy on the bench all the time .
Players who are currently going to be warming the bench need to stay otherwise we are weakening the overall squad.
Whats with all this talk of people leaving? Im sure Mattis will be gone before Mccann or Togwell. Cant see him getting much of a game this season.
Did not say anyone was leaving but I reckon with the size of the squad and the rumour its about to get bigger Gord might want to trim the wages a bit by getting SD to move on players he will not use . particularly players he did not bring in, I agree a big strong squad with competion for players is better but economics must enter in to it bearing in mind the position we were in a couple of years ago.
I don't understand why anyone should be leaving If players lose a bit of form ( Devaney ) , are injured ( Hassell , Bruma ) , or suspended ( Reid ) , we now have players who are capable of coming in and doing a decent job for us . That is something that was sadly lacking last season . Also , since he took over , Davey has let go Wright,Healey,McParland,Wroe,Jarman,Kay,Tonge,Austin,Lucas,Richards & seen three players opt to leave when offered new contracts in Hayes,Nardiello and Williams . So the number of players coming in seems to mirror the ones who've left this year . Another thing is that Davey managed to convince Howard,Hassell,Devaney,Reid & Togwell to sign new contracts this summer , so I would assume they are all in his plans this season . Just because any particular individual is not getting a place in the current starting line up does not mean that they won't get a place at some stage during the season and vice versa .
RE: I don't understand why anyone should be leaving Agreed. Could see Mattis leaving though and probably Heckingbottom in January.
If McCann leaves I'll be really disappointed Such a good player who if given the chance in the new system, should do well.
I'm with you on that, but both Togwell and McCann will only be able to prove their worth when the ball is played through midfield when moving forward rather than the tendency (from what I saw yesterday) to go route one. I would like to see a starting midfield of Howard, Johnson, Togwell and McCann - just to see if it works - because on paper that should give us the bite and flair
Can only see Devaney possibly leaving and a couple of young uns on loan. Maybe Mattis too. It is a long season and I am sure most of the squad will be given a chance at some point.
I thought we played it through midfield quite a bit actually... A lot more than any other game I've seen this season.
you could be right t.t, its certainly consistent with what most other posters saw yesterday. My overall impression was that the ball was passed around in the relative safety of defence/midfield but that it usually resulted in a long(ish) ball to the Ferenczi/Odebayi. Similarly, when defending, Plymouth had control of the area that I would have thought our midfield would have been competing (in). It was perhaps only the last 15 minutes when the game was stretched and a bit frantic that we were keeping it on the ground moving forward on a separate but related issue, how much space was there on our right that we did not seem able to use (the area Devaney usually operates in) so maybe I need to include Devaney in my 4 man midfield of Howard, Johnson, Togwell and McCann
RE: If McCann leaves I'll be really disappointed Cant see McCann or Togwell leaving. They'll be needed in the new year when Johnson starts to lose his legs a bit.
