    I dont get it.

Yes they should give you more physical presence when defending the ball in the air, but thats about it. Apart from their lack of agility and their inability to cope with tricky or fast wingers, I worry about what they offer when we are in possession. We play with a midfield diamond, so that means the full backs see plenty of the ball when we've got it, but nyatanga and brown offer nothing with the ball at their feet and nine times out of ten its a sideways or backwards pass. Similary they offer very little going forward because its not their thing to be constantly on the overlap and whipping balls into the box. Square pegs, round holes and all that.

Nyatanga was so poor it was unbelieveable in that last 30 minutes. He just seemed surprised every time the ball came near him.

I'd just do away with the diamond. We just don't seem capable of pulling it off for more than 15 minutes in a game.

Get back to basics. In fact I'd do away with Nyatanga, get Big Jean in Central defence with Ramage, drop Crainie, and give Dudgeon another crack. At least he is a left back.
I'd do something really radical, like playing wingers on the wing. And I'd be hammering the door down for a defensive midfielder.

I hate it when we have no width and no-one trying to beat a man.

Of the wingers we have .... Treacy, Jennings, and Williams all of them have ended up in the centre, running around like a headless chicken. Like you say, square pegs, round holes.

Who sez they are centre halves? Nyatanga has spent most of career at left back according to himself and we have yet to see Brown play in that position.

Scared to make any decision, with the ball looked very uncomfortable on ball, poor in tackle. Needs resting (Nyatanga)
Agreed need amore dynamic formation that imposes OUR game on opposition required. First 20 minutes very good with a couple of sporadic bits overall but inability to defend again and constantly, constantly running out of steam, a real worry.
