What a shambles that was today, a poor game with neither side much to write home about. I thought Utd just about edged it, as at least they carved out two or three reasonable attempts at goal!

I know Blades fans have been complaining on the quality of football that they've been served up this season and after seeing them today I can see why. That said, I think Flynn is a tidy player.

Back to the Reds, Scowen put himself about all afternoon as did Pearson but I'm afraid it just didn't happen for Hourihane or Stewart to provide the creativity that was needed to open things up. Stewart looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights today and Hourihane seemed more intent on cleaning the soles of his boots than putting a shift in.

I'm afraid not accommodating our main striker Winnall in his true position or not having the bottle to leave him out doesn't sit too well with me. I'm not a fan of one up front, particularly at home but it's all been about improving our goals against which has worked well over the last two months.

I'm a big 3-5-2 fan so I'd accommodate both Winnall and Ibehre, but that's just me.

For twenty minutes in the first half we looked not too bad, once we got the ball down and played but we were far too direct before that with long balls straight from the goalkeeper that they defended easily as Winnall and Ibehre were too far apart.

Hourihane's lack of work rate today was a concern for me. I've seen a comment on here today about his quality and how well he played. Really? I'm not going to argue about his ability, but I am going to let him know he didn't put the desired amount of graft in that I'd expect to see at any level of the game.

He was full of pointing for others players to do his tracking and tackling, with a lot of it aimed at Stewart. Johnson was right in taking both these players off, which is what I would have done at half time.

It can all change of course on Monday and hopefully that'll be the case but this match was truly forgettable and they will happen from time to time.

Back at it on Monday with plenty to play for.

    Up the Reds!
