Difficult to say from the commentary It seemed the referee didn't do us any favours. A freak goal for Burnley. But Burnley had their chances throughout the game. Plenty of chances for Barnsley but they seemed impotent up front. Odejayi had a terrible game from what I took from the commentary. Well that's what came across to me. Interesting to hear the thoughts of the folk who were there.
Point Gained Burnley looked pretty good, not one of our better performances but not too bad. Lets get ferenzci back, Mossto was good, Odejayi abysmal. Could have gone either way burnley were better team but a point was just about a fair result. Bring On Hull
Foster had probably his worst game for us and Howard wasn't much better in fact a bad at the office all round and back to last season's scenario Davey hadn't got a clue how to change things.
Point Gained Burnley came with a game plan and proved themselves to be one of the better teams in the league. They had a majority of the chances and then if Foster had have got onto the through ball, we might have sneaked all three points. We won't play many teams this season as good as them and it's another top half team out of the way. Cannot complain too much.
Always a point gained when your key objective is survival we can start worrying about points dropped if we throw away 3 goal leads, coming from behind a point will do me fine
On the balance of play a fair result But we were having the better of the game up to the denial of Odejaye's penalty claim, they then went downfield and scored. Had that penalty been awarded it could have been a very different game. Burnley had the better of the game after they scored until we scored. But a draw at home to Burnley has to be considered as 2 points dropped.
RE: Difficult to say from the commentary We miss Ferenczi chasing down the ball and closing down defenders. Odejaye needs players to be ready to pick up knockdowns etc, otherwise he's going to look like he's having a bad game when he's getting balls lumped up to him which he can't do anything with than chest/head down.
RE: Point Gained "one of the better teams in the league" - in that case we don't have too much to worry about from a footballing point of view, just need to get ready for some physical battles. They are a workmanlike team, nothing more.
Yes. I believe it was a fair result Burnley were workmanlike as you say and nothing really sparkling. The defence dealt easily with the limited threat of Akinbiyi and although Gray proved a handful at times, they dealt with him. Two definite penalties from where I was sitting in the Ponte end and the linesman appeared to give the first one. Had those been given and converted, then the game would have looked a whole lot different We have to learn to be more physical though. They bossed us around all the first half and thankfully we battled hard to stay in the game in the second half. We badly missed Da Silva and Ferencij and both Howard and McCann had poor games by their standards To me we looked sluggish and second to the ball. Burnley looked very fit and there were some tired legs at the end. I think that Davey's message to the team has to be to keep working hard. We won't win anything if we don't work hard. Games are won through hard work, determination and team effort, all of which we have seen so far from the players this season Let's hope that they are not hyping up their performances and believing that they only have to turn up to win. That would be a disaster.
Two dropped.
Their gosl was a flluke and they couldn't put their other chances away. We hadthree orfour penalty shouts at least one of which (the first) was a definite. The penalty law is there to enable you to approch thegoal without the opposition tripping you, climbing all over you, pulling you back or handling the ball. If the ref hadn't allowed them to continuously foul us we'd have won comfortably.
I know they looked a decent side and I understand the "balance of play" argument but the fact is that if that game had been properly officiated we'd have had all three points.

Agree with your assessment Tina. Sousa had Akinbiyi in his pocket all game, thought a more physical threat might have been a test for him but he came through it well. The previous international break worked to our advantage allowing a little more time for training for a new team, this one seems to have broken our momentum, lets hope it's a temporary thing.
that is pretty much what I thought although de Souza got pushed around by Akinbiyi more than he should and their no 10 (Gray) was a nuisance (and got away with a lot) Chris Waddle on R5 for the Everton/Liverpool match said that when you have one team playing kick and rush and one team playing football, it is easy for the footballing team to sink to the level of the lower standard. Thats what happened yesterday, Burnley worked hard, we had to respond to them, then they were able to play their football. Another thing, I thought we had some big players (Holloway said that we pushed Plymouth around) but yesterday most of ours looked small against theirs. More red meat and bananas required
Point gained after a poor performance from our midfield and half our strike force. When half of the team doesn't show up and you go a goal down it has got to be a point gained. Hats off to them with the way they got their heads down and stuck at it though. This season I almost expect them to come from behind and get something, which is something that has been lacking from a Barnsley side for a while. Great character in the side.
RE: Two dropped. Agree entirely. I also think we'd have lost that game last year, so in some ways point gained too. (I'll just go and get the splinters out of my backside!) Having suffered in Moscow on Wednesday last thing I needed was to get back and get that ref at Oakwell - lost count of the number of possible pens for us but one dead cert at the beginning (and red card) and the one where Odejayi got a free kick on the edge of the box having been pushed and fallen way inside it (I was on the front row and dead level). That was a disgrace really and even more so as the lino could see it plain as day - only two explanations, no bottle or bent.
