points and head to head

how are Italy above spain at the moment, both on 5, drew against each other yet spain scored 4 against ireland, dont make sense, why dont we just have points, goal diff and goals scored like normal competitions

It is a joke. It is a league system, where you play each other team and the points you accumulate are what counts. But then if the points are the same they totally depart from the league system and say it is how you did in an individual match that matters. Crazy. Should be GD then GS, both based on what you do over the entire league. UEFA, FIFA, FA, all thick as fook.

Ignore the lot of them, here's the deal.

At the moment Italy top the group because when they all have the same amount of points (except ireland) we can ignore ireland's results completely meaning that everyone has 2 points and have all drawn against each other. Italy are top though because they have scored two goals while the other two teams have only scored once each (spain got 2 1-1 draws, the others got a 1-1 draw and a 0-0 draw.

So we have italy clearly at the top and now just need to work out who is second and who is third and because they both have the same goals in matches amongst themselves (as I said 1-1 and 0-0) then its quite simple because we just look at the normal table (including all ireland's games) and the team with the better goal difference goes above the one with the worse goal difference so Spain go through with a +4 GD while Croatia go out with a +2 GD


Table as it stands:

Italy - 5 points, more goals scored in games against spain and croatia than the other two have scored
Spain - 5 points, same goals scored as croatia in games against everyone not including ireland but more goals scored in ireland game
Croatia - 5 points, same goals scored as croatia in games against everyone not including ireland but less goals scored against ireland.
Ireland - 0 points

 

i understand now but its total ****. should be points then goal difference and then goals scored

 

They have just explained it as being a 'mini league' between the teams on the same points. So in effect they are discounting what happened against ROI??? Confusing. And typical.

 

They are at first but then in a mini league without including ireland you cannot separate spain and croatia so you have to bring ireland back in.

Very confusing and completely pointless in my opinion
