Too much time on my hands..

Points required to stop up over past 10 seasons.

    2011/12 - 49 points*
    2010/11 - 43 points
    2009/10 - 48 points
    2008/09 - 47 points
    2007/08 - 53 points
    2006/07 - 43 points
    2005/06 - 43 points
    2004/05 - 50 points
    2003/04 - 51 points
    2002/03 - 47 points

    * accounts for Portsmouth's points won on field before deductions

Average points to stay up over the last 10 seasons = 47pts.

At the current rate of points per game the end of season would leave current bottom 3 on:

    Barnsley - 50 pts.
    Bristol City - 47 pts.
    Peterborough - 46 pts.

And just for fun - Final standings of the current bottom 9 teams based on their current points total + the points per game achieved during their last 10 games:

    16. Sheffield Wednesday - 67pts.
    17. Ipswich - 66 pts.
    18. Birmingham 59 pts.
    19. Barnsley - 58 pts.
    20. Peterborough - 54 pts.
    21. Bristol City - 50 pts.
    22. Bolton - 49 pts.
    23. Huddersfield - 49pts.
    24. Wolves - 43 pts.

I'd say 52pts will be enough to stay up. Although with it being so close at the bottom and teams taking points off each other, it might be that not as many are needed. That would leave us needing 18 points from 15 games. Thoughts?

On the 18 points from 15 games, it was 27 points from 18 games 3 games ago so it' s looking a lot better wit current form

Nice work. I haven't done the sums, but too many teams around us getting results, to suggest 50 will be enough. I really don't think it will. 13 from 15 and we're still in the bottom 3, is mental

I predict Peterborough and Bristol City will go down and then 11 other teams will finish on 52 points.

Very hard to tell points required but on our current form there are at least 8 or 9 teams getting worried think about how todays result would have been received at Ipswich ,Wednesday and wolverhampton. If we beat Wolves then the required total for me would be significantly less possiblly 51 the point at Ipswich was vital.

Interesting reading Wednesday's forum. They're saying exactly the same..."how the **** can we have had a run like this and still only be 2 points from the drop". This run in requires balls. Big steel balls. Like JOB and the Beast. Daws back soon too..

50 will be enough. Almost every year that point is thrown into doubt but someone always drops like a stone or loses form (as long as it not us) and 50 will be enough. As shown by those last ten years, only Leicester have ever gone down with 50 points haven't they, at least in recent times?
