As I have no idea what I am looking for.. Is itn possible someone could do a league table from first game since val took over. Also average points per game since val took over .
PPG=1.9189 https://www.twtd.co.uk/league-tables/competition:championship/form/matches:37/type:home-and-away/
This site's useful: https://www.11v11.com/league-tables/ I worked this out the other day: Points per game pre-Val: 0.5 (3 pts from 6) Points per game between Val arriving and Dike arriving: 1.57 (33 pts from 21) Points per game since Dike arrived: 2.38 (38 from 16)
We have currently (before the Rotherham game) played only 36 games, I believe, since Val took over from Murray, with 70 points, so the PPG is 1.94.We had 4 draws and 3 defeats in our first 7 games.
I thought that too when I was working it out based on Wikipedia numbers (which might be wrong). The date I've put in that table above is from the date big Val joined (according to Wikipedia).
VI joined on the day of the Millwall game, but sat in the stands. Adam Murray still led the team that day. VI's official first game was the home game with QPR, hence he's been in charge 36 games, with 70 points gained.
If only Struber had tried at the start and not spent it moaning and picking poorer teams to prove a point
All the talk about reaching 50 points and it could well be that 40 would have been enough if Wednesday and Rotherham don't get anything from their next few. Usually a big points difference between the top 6 and bottom 6 highlights a gulf in quality over the course of the season. Do we still think that this has been the poorest Championship in years?
One could say that there have been some poor displays by opposing teams at Oakwell this season, although that would mask the brilliant performances of our own players in getting to the position that we are in now.
My feeling is it's been poor quality with more sides playing direct football. Perhaps that's because there's no crowds to boo them off. Long throw ins in particular seem all the rage. The table above also confirms how close Huddersfield have sailed to the wind.
Neil Warnock reckons we'd better get promoted because the way we play it will be a hard season next year as teams suss us out
Get where he’s coming from, but I don’t personally think ‘sussing us out’ was ever the problem. For me it was having the players to deal with our style. Big question for me is what our squad looks like next season, if we miss out in play offs. We may not have the players to be as effective in Val’s style. Assuming Mowatt and Dike move on. Also, dare I say it, expect at least a bid to come in for Big Val.
Furthermore, only twice before has the playoffs been attained with more than 77 points. 2016/17 6th place was 80 points & 2014/5 6th place was 78 points. So with 2 games to go this could be another record breaking year for the playoffs points wise.
As a general rule of thumb, if Barnsley do well there's always someone who will claim "it's the poorest Championship (or Division 1) in years". It also happened when we won promotion in 2006, 2016 & 2019.There's even been a claim on here "promotion to the Premier League in 1996/97 wasn't a great achievement, as we had to play the likes of Grimsby, Tranmere and Southend"! The poster then admitted they never saw us that season because they were too young!
We had, but you could sense something big was happening from the 94/95 season (trust us to finish 6th when the PL were reducing back to 20 teams)
