If Barnsley were to enter one of the cups played pre-season in San Antonio next year might you be interested in one of the Flight/Hotel/Ticket packages supplied by the organisers?

These are reasonably priced package holidays to San Antonio on which you have the added bonus of being part of the travelling support for your club in a mini-cup.

This year the Copa de Ibiza involved the local side with Huddersfield, Coventry and QPR.

    Cheers.

I work with a huddersfield fan who went. He went on the official package as it was meant to be the only way to get tickets for the games. However the tickets were on sale in bars and hotels. He reckons it would have much cheaper to get your own flights/hotels and then get match tickets out there.

He also says there was a bit of trouble at the final when a load of QPR nutters tried to attack a few peaceful Coventry fans. The police waded in with batons and stun guns.

Apparently the QPR fans were a handful. All the Huddersfield fans I came across were sweet as a nut.

The SA and Ibizan authorities want some kind of idea of the supporters' track records in future before sanctioning any club next year. Amongst other new measures taken to ensure the right kind of fans attend there will be banning orders in place. I think there will be more control over ticket sales as well.

This year was only the second cup so some teething problems are to be expected but they're all working hard to get it right.

in response to what the huddersfield fan said, tickets are not freely available if so why did the touts do so well. yes cheaper accommodation can be found if you are willing to stay in a hostal. san antonio police do not own any stun guns.

Talking to a Hudds lad that went, he said it was like a mecca for firms. Not much attempt at segregation at games and loads of fighting. At one of the games the play stopped so that the players could appeal for calm to the 'fans'.

The problem arose because last year the Preston, Watford and Wednesday fans were all well behaved so this year they didn't expect to need any controls in place.

Next year will be different. the banning orders will keep certain individuals away and there will be a strong police presence from the start.

The authorities and police know that 99% of fans are well behaved and these measures coupled with others, including tighter contols on ticket sales, will hopefully ensure there are no further problems.

No, rather go to Germany for the World Cup .......

..... and no doubt that's where all the 'firms' will be, if they can get there, so the San Antonio tournament might be a lot quieter next year!

Anyway, what's sparked all this Windy? Are you planning on trying to get BFC involved in the cup next year, or is your thread hypothetical?

    That be amazing !!! BUT...

shouldve seen the trouble on this recent tour in Ibiza with QPR, Hudds and Cov. Every night on the West End was constant chanting from fans of one of the clubs. Most nights it just stayed at chanting, but it could have easily turned to serious trouble. There was 15 of us and one nigth we all were singing barnsley songs, with a battle with about 30 Huddlesfield fans and again in a boozer singing against QPR fans. But one night (luckily we were at a nightclub) the West End turned into a 100+ man brawl with the QPR fans been at the centre of it all.

It would be a great time and experience, but the trouble is unthinkable, espicially when the spannish police get involved.

Id be there if we toured Ibiza tho :D

    Luxury.

I had the roomie from hell.

A typical morning was Friday. I'd just got off to sleep when he barged in at 10am with eyes like saucers angrily claiming to have been abducted.
