What is he talking about? Does he seriously think that there are clubs who think 'hey this pads chuffing brilliant but he's quite rich so we don't want him' Hasn't he realised that what is actually happening is people are thinking 'hmm this lads OK at football but his mind is on his business and he isn't as committed as he should be to his career'
Rovrum did **** all business yesterday and last Saturday suggested they really needed to. I'm thinking Stubbs is sat at his desk with a bloody great list of out of contract players, I reckon Wabara would be a decent signing for them.
He does realise that, he says in his tweets that it isn't true and unfair. I can understand people having no sympathy with him, but I can see what he's saying. Ultimately he's obviously not convinced anyone he's good enough to be worth a good contract though.
But why would anyone automatically assume that? A lot of footballers have other interests and businesses these days and it doesn't stop them from getting contracts but he isn't getting offered them. The difference HAS to be him. He even said that he refuses to sign unless it's good money because he isn't going to be taken advantage of. The poor little sod
Ironic, when he takes advantage of the poor sods who watch when he's in their side and takes their money!!
I'd say so yes. In the last few years at Barnsley alone we've had Golbourne, Wabara, Frimpong, Shea , Steele and Has sell all having a business or doing work outside of their football with Barnsley and they're just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
The reason why his successful business influences club decisions is that because he has a good income to fall back on he can afford to demand an higher salary in football. It's clear he is asking for more than people value his worth and it's also clear he is prepared to not play at all than do it for the average salary. He is pricing himself out effectively.
Wabara has a design business, Golbourne the same, the less said about dench boy the better, Steele (with a friend) started a goalkeeping school for kids, has sell is heavily involved with the church along with his mate Bruce dyer and Shea has an art and design business. I'm sure there's a few others who we've had at Barnsley too but I can't put my finger on them
You'd think if he really enjoyed football he'd be happy to do the opposite! You hear of plenty of footballers who play for free in their later years, Jonathan Greening being the most recent one I've read about.
I knew Bobby and Bruce were involved heavily in religion, and even religion within football(?) I had absolutely no idea about the others though apart from the opportunity to stay dench, whatever that may mean...
I'd say that counts as quite a lot when we are talking about just one club and only the ones I've personally heard about. I guess it depends on your definition of a lot but if you multiply that by 92 clubs it would be quite a long list, enough for you to be able to conclude that wabara is the issue not his business
