We were the better side in the first half, until they scored from what I think was their first effort on target. That being said, we didn't manage to create anything clear cut, and could only manage long-range, speculative efforts, and about ten hopeful penalty shouts. Hammill's half-volleyed effort, that forced a great save from Alnwick was the only positive moment from the first half. The second half wasn't any better. We somehow managed to turn our own corner into conceding another goal. Ben Pearson again playing a part in this with a poor ball. We had a late flurry of hopeful punts into the box and eventually got extremely lucky with a Port Vale defender putting the ball on a plate for Sam Winnall to finish off. Another defeat against another sh*t side. Hammill had a good game - full of tricks as usual, and had a few decent attempts on goal. He also put in some good crosses that nobody capitalised on. Hourihane had a decent game also. I'm usually critical of him, but like Hammill he put a few good balls into the box and nearly scored towards the end. He did waste a good opportunity to score near the penalty spot, though. James Bree was impressive. Put in a few good tackles and looked composed. If only he was left-footed. The back four as a whole is powder-puff. I'm sure I'll get slated because he's a local lad, but George Smith is woeful. I don't think I've seen a player misplace as many passes, headers and even throw-ins as him. I had high hopes for the other Smith, Michael, but I don't think he actually won a header when he came on. I wouldn't be surprised to see us continue this run and lose our next three.
George Smith is absolute dogshite,Been saying so all season but,not allowed to slate him cos he's not on loan. He's useless at going forward. Miss places 9/10 passes. Offers nothing to his winger.hesitates on the ball too long. Offers very little in defence also. Every game he's our weak link
I saw him misplace passes, but 9 outta 10 giorr wi thi. Yer dunt efta go oer top to get yer point across.
Just seen the goals again. No idea why Mawson made no attempt to head the ball for their first goal. Both goals came via crosses from their right-hand side.
Mawson does that ALL the time. Never puts his body on the line. Never attemps the last ditch block or tackle. He's had an appalling season. For me he's a failed centre midfielder. I don't see any natural defensive instincts in him. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
I can't say I'm impressed at the moment. But no one is. But he is being very Tom kennedy esq at the moment flinging balls down the wing to...... well o grady isn't playing like. But I saw so many balls chucked down the wing to nobody today.
Alot to agree with there. But disagree about CH and Bree. CH missed a sitter and did nowt otherwise. Bree gets stuck in with his headers but otherwise lacks quality. There were quite a few on here saying he was going to be as good as Stones. He will not be as good as Holgate. George takes more responsibility but typifies a woeful League 1 team. Although "team" at this level tends to suggest an element of considered organisation and tactical instruction. When for the last half hour we just boot it upfront like we did when I played at Middle School, we're a team in that we all wear the same colour shirts. S'abart it.
That's your opinion fella, but did he really misplace 9 out of 10 passes or you stretching the truth?
Me as well, but were not allowed to are we. Can't blame Smithy for the throw ins, he often gets the ball to throw and nobody shows for it.
Thought George Smith was very poor on Tuesday night and not much better today. Can't understand how Mawson was so easily out jumped for the first goal - our strikers never seem to do the same to the opposition. Whilst we didn't deserve to lose, you simply can't afford to give away such soft goals, especially when you create so little at the other end. Watkins was disappointing and failed to get on the end of a few dangerous crosses. Hammill looked good again and Isgrove worked hard but to little effect. Hourihane's shooting was woeful - what has happened to the player who smashed goals in from long distance at the start of last season? Port Vale were poor but we lacked the quality to beat them. 5 of the next 7 games are away and I don't see many points being picked up tbh. It will take a massive turn around to salvage this season and it will be a dogfight down at the bottom and young players will find that tough...
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. Been saying it for a while now, Mawson is awful. Lumbers around the field, distribution awful, weak in the air, poor defensively and another captain with zilch leadership.
Agreed, just seen them. Mawson jumping like he's got deep sea diving boots on and their second goal WTF was Pearson doing running at the side of him? 60yds jogging at the side of him, get a challenge in, bring him down, tug his shirt, if you've ever played football it's worth a yellow! Don't run at the ******* side of him!!
Mistakes by young inexperienced players are killing us in nearly every game. Brilliant recruitment policy...
Micheal Smith did win a header and it was in the box. Only problem was he headed it away from goal ! P Rick
