If, as is being suggested in various reports, Portsmouth were to be deducted 10 points for their current problems, the league table would look very healthy from a Barnsley point of view. Barnsley.... Played 18 Points 24 Coventry... Played 19 Points 13 Doncaster.. Played 19 Points 13 Portsmouth. Played 18 Points 10 no concerns over relegation and it's still only November. ( not that i did have )
Portsmouth may disagree but Southampton FC may feel if the FA is to be consistant then they should be deducted points. All to so with the holding company i believe. Southampton's was in charge of all things SFC whereas Portsmouth FC's is involved in other businesses.Could get confusing and messy in court.
yes the point with saints was the club and the holding company were found to be essentially a single entity with the set up existing entirely to get round this rule, if Pompey's holding co. is an existing company with other interests they may try to argue on that point perhaps
Pompey get all tehy deserve. Sorry for their fans but they have gone from not paying many local companies and schols etc, systematically running away from debts to a new supplier knowing they ciould not pay that one and have signed a player for £1.5 million this season. As well as still having the likes of Dave Kitson, who they can't affford, who made a difference against us at Fratton Park.
Thats what annoys me - they gain a completely unfair advantage living beyond their means - difficult to administer now but any club coming ou of admin should have strict limits on transfer fees and what they can pay new players To walk away from a plie of debt leaving loads of people out of pocket and then sign a player for 1.5million is just taking the ****
Just seen this http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15969818.stm For the first time in my life I'm on the side of the tax man. Hope this absurb and illegal rule gets thrown out once and for all.
Completely agree. It's one of the biggest factors why football is in the situation it is. Why should a printing company get a token payment of outstanding monies and it's future jeopardised yet clubs who are being run recklessly with little care or intent to change get their millions and their overpaid primadonnas get their salaries guaranteed? It happens in no other industry, nor would it be allowed to happen in any other industry. The Football league QC says scrapping the rule may undermine clubs and start a chain reaction. Hardly a legal argument. Lets hope it ends and it acts as an incentive for clubs to live within their means. One final comment... Bristol City lost more than they turned over this year, only slightly up from last year. Insane
I dont follow the Leagues argument "Why should a football club be forced to play another club which hasn't paid a transfer fee or its transfer gate money - that's unsustainable," lawyer John Verrill of Dundas & Wilson - the Football League's solicitors - told BBC Sport. How is that different to being forced to play another club that hasnt paid its tax bill and other creditors
It's unbelievable Why the football authorities think that they can set rules which appear to go against the law, common sense and general business practice is beyond me. For a lawyer to come out with a statement like that is laughable. Remind me not to engage him if I get in a pickle. Football clubs should run like any other business, and be subject to the same laws, customs and practice. Like I've said many times on here, I believe the football creditors rule is illegal. I hope I'm proved right for the sake of football.
