Apart from the sacking of Ritchie getting rid of the manager seems to have achieved little.

    I'll try............

to not let it bother me I guess the post was too factual for some-not enough speculation/moaning/ridiculous optimism/pessimism for most on here !!

    Good Morning

Interesting stats, thanks for talking the time and trouble. I wonder if it would be possible to extend them to show the next 10 games AFTER the sacking. Then it would be easier to judge whether sacking managers actually achieves anything.

Read the 90 minute manager which compares football management with business management.

Sacking the manager rarely works unless you have massive funding to bring in a load of players.

I have a friend who is a Forest fan so I'm keeping my eye on their revival.

you've just said :- "Sacking the manager rarely works unless you have massive funding to bring in a load of players."

Then go on to say you are keeping your eyes on Forest -the same Forest who have brought a new manager in without any new players and are on a brilliant run of form.

It shows the lack of quality in the managers we've appointed after losing Danny Wilson

After all, how many of those we've sacked have had success as a manager since leaving Barnsley? There's not one that I can think of. Perhaps we wouldn't have had to go through so many managers had we made better appointments in the first place.
    Just a thought.

Wilsons career has been downhill since our promotion to the Premiership.

Bassett was a good appointment at the time - with hindsight he made some poor signings but I was very pleased at the time

I think Gudjon could have achieved something if we had given him more support - surely there has been no Barnsley manage to receive less backing than he did??

    when alls said and done

the only thing that counts is the shortcomings of the manager in charge at the time and I believe that Daveys are so many that a change is justified. Also you could argue that on too many occasions that the lack of improvement was due to bad selection of candidate (theres one or two who we all thought would have been better) or we took the cheap option and certainly a couple who would probably have benifitted from the same patience that has been shown to Davey.
But what with baffling substitutions/formations (or lack of substitutions failure to react - see London Tykes post) players being played well out of position failure to see the blindingly obvious (strikers situation which has been ongoing) I can't see him pulling it round.

    And yet

He's still had more success than any of the managers who followed him into the job.

    I felt sorry for Gudjon

As he had to do the job with both hands tied behind his back.
However, no one has had any level of success after leaving Barnsley, so there's more to the issue than simply the number of managers we've had. That's the point I'm trying to make.

Paul just for your records I think we were in 22nd position with 15 pts when Ritchie was sacked on Nov 21st.

Southend didn`t reach 15pts until Dec 9th and a super Leeds win on 30th Jan took them to 17 pts.

    RE: Good Morning

You said bringing a new manager only works if you have funds to spend on players THEN you say you are keeping an eye on Forest's revival - a team who have sacked their manager and not spent any money on players but are doing well - disproving your own point

It doesn't disapprove my own point, which was that it rarely works.

This is backed up by FA stats which show that a change of manager can have a positive effect for a few games and then they revert back to their previous form. Thats what Davey did when he took over from Ritchie. He kept us up but we still had a fight on our hands the next season to stay up, much as we do now.

Have a look at the book I suggested earlier.

I'm keeping my eye on Forest to see if this run of good form continues.

    Terrible appointment...

should have been sacked after Wembley and not because we lost
