It appears to me that many on this BBS are dishing out plenty of stick to one another for being 'too positive' or 'too negative'. Perhaps we need to remember here that we are talking about extremely deep feelings here from a bunch of people that all want the same thing - success for Barnsley FC.

Being 'positive' or being 'negative' is not a permanent state of affairs, nor is it an either/or condition. Personally, I have tried so desperately hard to stay positive all season, and I still remind myself every day that we only have to finish above 3 other teams. Whether that's due to our ability or their inability I don't care. If we stayed up with the lowest points total in history, I don't care. It's the only goal. But what I do know is that I'm finding it harder by the week to forsee us staying up, and it makes me sick to the stomach to think of the kind of atmosphere around Oakwell we might see next season if we go down. That, coupled with some of the bemusing stuff coming from those at the top, makes me consider whether or not I will renew my season ticket.

After Sheff Wed, on New Years Day, and now yesterday have been horrible, horrible days to be a Barnsley fan. It is very hard to stay positive and to feel any real enthusiasm for the next match. I can't see where the points are coming from, but what can we do? Support the team and hope for the best, it's all any of us can do. So what's the point in bickering about who is the most positive and who is the most negative. It's a scale of feelings that constantly changes.

A case in point is the new boy Dwayne Mattis. Now, IMO he had an absolute stinker yesterday, and in discussing the game with my Dad in the seat next to me, I made a number of comments that highlighted the fact that he had a stinker. Football is all about opinions, and you can only call it as you see it. When I got home I noticed that all negative comments about Mattis on the BBS were followed by 3-4 more criticising the person who had dared to suggest that he'd had a stinker, as they were 'ridiculously negative.' Also, anyone that had overheard a negative comment about him (maybe some of them even refer to me) was deemed a w@nker. It is simply an opinion of his performance, and it doesn't mean I expect him to play badly for us on Tuesday, Saturday or any other time. I desperately hope he does well, as that would contribute to the end goal (staying up). However, I don't see why people should have to dress up their opinion purely on the grounds that he's a new player.

I've forgotten where I was going with this, so I'll stop now! Just remeber that we're all about opinions. This site is becoming harder and harder to read on account of the fact that each poster seems to be in an unofficial 'category' (positive or negative) that dictates how the responses go. I can't keep track! (And on that point, a big thumbs up to site admin for the 'ignore' function, cheers!)
