    Sorensen resigned to Villa exit

Sorensen's contract runs out this summer
Goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen says he wants to leave Aston Villa after giving up hope of being offered a new deal.
The 31-year-old has struggled to make the bench for much of this season after falling behind Scott Carson and Stuart Taylor in the Villa Park pecking order.

"I am simply not interested any more. Villa have shown that they have no interest whatsoever to invest in me," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"Even if the manager personally offered me a new contract, I wouldn't sign it."

The Danish international joined Villa from Sunderland for a fee of £2.25m in 2003 and for the previous three seasons was the club's number one goalkeeper.

But that role has been taken by England keeper Carson after he joined on-loan from Liverpool in August - with the clubs set to agree a permanent deal.

    606: DEBATE
What do you make of Sorensen's comments?

"The manager Martin O'Neill decided to recruit a new goalkeeper when I was injured," Sorensen added. "He then told me during a meeting that I shouldn't take my spot for granted.

"I said some things and the press exaggerated what had been said and that upset him. But I can't believe that would be a reason to punish me this way."

Sorensen's deal runs out next year and he could sign a pre-contract with a foreign club in January if he is allowed to leave.

"At this point I am open to all suggestions," said Sorensen. "If somebody shows me a contract, I will sign it, no matter what the offer is.

"But at the same time I don't want to play temporarily for some Japanese club either."
