Can't believe people are slating it. The 3 films are the greatest fantasy films ever. The books are pretty damn good. Cant beat a good story.

    I'd have to agree

Never read the books before the films came out, thinking they were the preserve of role-playing geeks so I was blown away by them. I have subsequently tried reading the books and find them a bit hard going, especially when the characters keep bursting out into song(?).

Sign of a good film, when you watch it for 3 and half hours and it feels like an hour. 'Blown away' is a good description of the feeling when I first saw them. Gutted when they come to an end.

    Yes, that's exactly right...

...three and a half hours seems like an hour. I can watch the (substantially) extended versions no problem. Great characters, great plot, great effects, great scenery. Marvellous. I did think the ending was a bit strange though... you know what I mean, it seems to end then go on about four times.

Maybe Tolkein didn't want to stop writing it either. :D

Another good one. Went to the cinema to see that with my brother when we were kids. Enchanted by it.

gd job the films didn't follow the booksexactly or they would have been 6-7 hours long. they missed loads out. also they should have done the hobbit first and made four films

    Stick with the books

They can be heavy going at times but they are worth the effort.

There are rumours that they are gonna make a movie of The Hobbit. Don't know why they didn't start there, but they did the same with Star Wars.

    My first "X" film!

Sneaked into the old Ritz to watch it.

    Still think she's sexy.

But I am getting on a bit!

I must check the book when I get home

And see if that quality piece of Dialog is in the book as originally written by Tolkein or some scriptwriters little joke

Not seen the film for a while but did video it last night I am assuming this is at Helms Deep.

By the way I thought the films were excellent - and did a reasonable attempt at following the books - apart from the stupid additions to big up Kate Blanchetts role and a few other unnecessary deviations.

When I read the books I found the first half of the first one a bit heavy going but once they got properly set off and had met up with Aragorn I found them hard to put down.

When I was a teenager I thought they were the greatest books ever written - wouldnt go so far now but still the guy had one hell of an imagination
