Aside from Walton in goal and Ben Williams at LB looking a little nervous at times, I thought it was a pretty perfect performance. Overall we still have the best defence in League 1, Ethan Pinnock looks solid everytime I see him and it was very nice to see that he was captain, much deserved. Cavare also had a standout game, no complaints with Brad Potts being named man of the match but Cavare definitely a shoe in for second. To me, the entire team was outstanding. We've only conceded 9 goals all season, and that's insanely pleasing. (Lowest in the league) If any investments are needed I think a backup goalie is a good place to start. Also, responding to certain complaints about Moncur and Jacob Brown; Moncur's assist for the second was outstanding, and aside from having a quiet game I don't see much fault with anything Brown did, what did he do wrong? Come on you reds.
Moncur was named MoM at the game. Personally I thought it was Potts (same as Sky) but Moncur was excellent in the first half so I can understand why he got it. I agree about the individual criticisms that were posted (some were probably valid but perhaps unnecessary). Williams and Walton are both young kids so will learn from every game they play in. Overall it was a very good team performance.
Really don't think we need a back up keeper. Only if we were planning on send Walton out on loan. He's more than good enough for 2nd choice and wouldn't want us spending a wage on someone to sit on the bench that could go towards a additional forward that we could do with.
On the goalkeeping front, it seems our coaching staff have confidence in youth. I only just realised that our substitute keeper yesterday was Henry Kendrick, same age as my son (17/18), and not Jake Greatorex. Was the latter playing for the u-23's?
Brown didn't do anything wrong because he did little in the first place - very talented player but not a starter at the minute - like Victor he's a better impact sub
Can we still get an emergency loan for a goalkeeper? - If Davies is called up and Walton gets injured then we could be in trouble!
Brown’s main error as such was his hesitation when 1 on 1 with the keeper at the end. He needed to get a shot away early, but dithered and allowed the defender to get a tackle in.
Don't think you can no. They would just expect you to play a young player. And I get the point ints valid and could easily happen but again it would only be a game and who knows a young lad may come in and play a blinder.
Being a pessimist, two injuries to Davies and Walton and we are down to the U23 and U18 keepers. All it takes is a couple of bad collisions and we have a major problem until the window reopens.
A good striker wouldve let it roll across their body in that position cos there was enough weight on the pass, the touch instead allowed the defender to get back.. good talent and surprisingly won a lot of headers as well but little things like that are what he needs to improve on. Decision making.
I would have been in favour of signing a keeper & sending Jack out on lone to L2. He could do with some game time. He's very young for a keeper to be playing first team games even at this level. That said I think he'll make a good keeper, he has not been phased & Saturday's conditions were not good for any keeper. Brown looks a really good prospect & will only get better with game time. I'm not sure if striker will be his position in the long run, but remains to be seen. He does have the pace & is decent in the air.
True enough, we are in a similar situation up front too at the moment. Just it isn't really possible to have a 3rd choice keeper of a decent standard who knows he isn't going to play. I've never seen anyone our young keepers play so it's hard to judge how good they would be.
Played ball to Potts for 1st admittedly 2nd was a ball by Williams , dummied by Bahre and Moncur set it up , was Brown the one who ran the ball into the defender for the deflection which took it to Thiam ? Out of those I'll give you a three yard pass and incomplete dribble ....
