I guess that policies suggested in 2021 are hard to implement a few years later after the Tory scum have killed the economy and practically bankrupted the country.
George Osborne Mk ii. And just like his introduction of austerity, this version will be an ideological choice.
Labour unlikely achieve anything at all. This will still be better than these scumbags in charge. Jesus what a mess.
smart ploy for the Tories would be to bring Cameron back as leader. Similar policies to Starmer but a much better media performer. They won’t do it cos they’re mentalists but if they wanna win I’d do that. https://x.com/bbcjlandale/status/1728105949146288378?s=46&t=j20zR706pmXrBtdI_7p-NQ
Each to his own with this one. Rachel had already said the 28bn would be "when affordable". The economic forecasts this week have further downgraded, so this is hardly a surprise if you're realistic. The first job is getting into power - and Keir has made it very difficult for the Tories to pin anything on him that will stick. As to what happens when (if? ) Labour get in power? Make your judgement then. Tories out is first and paramount, above all else.
Trouble is Labour are setting themselves up to get kicked back out again after just one term. If all they can offer is 'fiscal responsibility' then they will either not do anything cos of cost or if they do do anything they'll get the 'reckless' comments from the Tories and media. Wont take much for people to forget how awful the Tories are and for Labour support to crumble if they look weak in government. No clear principles beyond 'fiscal responsibility' is a long term weakness and will come back to bite.
Oh Jeez KCP, let's settle for a win and build on that? It's been thirteen long and fairly miserable years - let's not get ahead of ourselves.
In the words of Confucius 'A person should speak what he thinks. If he can't think he should be silent'. Actually I just made that up. Sounds good though dunnit?
And then again: "He who teaches his son to play at the top of a waterfall shall not long be a father!"
The planet doesn’t care about made up fiscal rules. Labour are pissing their goodwill away . Funny to see people like you defending the indefensible
Jimmy, you're way too smart to need me to tell you that you need to play the game to get elected. And you won't do that by giving the Tories **** to throw at you. If you don't get in you can make all the unrealisable promises you want. They'll count for nothing.
As someone who worked in politics. What I can tell you is govt will achieve less than they promise in opposition. So if you promise nothing you will achieve less than that.
And many people subscribe to the view that oppositions don't win elections - governments lose them. I'm content with where Labour are under Starmer. Far more so than with the last two leaders. But we are all entitled to our own view.
