This looks to be on course to be the new logo for this nice new site. And whilst I agree it is well put together ..... I thought we were trying to rid ourselves of the "dog" image. Lots of talk on the BBS last year about ot, followed by a great welcome for the coat of arms etc. The club also seemed to lead the way. So, after all that, why are people voting for the dog?
because it is the one thing that specifically identifies the club. The town crest, which I like represents err the town the Metrodome, Locke Park the council etc . Toby represents the club and always has in my lifetime. Why should we want to rid ourselves of the image ?? Bit like the music the team comes out to. Yes it was a crap 80's tune , but it was unique to us, now we seem to be unsure of what we are going to play. Both these things give us an identity in the bland corporate homogenised world in which we live, and i kind of like that !
I have no real problems with the dog as such. My surprise was that after what seemed like loads of angst and a seemingly wide agreement that we should improve our image, including the phasing out of Toby Tyke, that he should be so popular in the light of 17 other entries, none of which feature him. And I agree about the music. It may be dated 80s - but it's good and it is unique to us. If clubs like Liverpool can live with surface tripe like a soppy song from a mediocre 50s musical, and a dated theme tune from a tame sixties cop show, I think we should cement Cocoon into our own club's identity now.
how come it is said the logo is out phasing the dog, the coat of aarms has been put on the shirt but since when has toby been on the shirts. it was the white rose before, that is the only thing that has disapeared. toby is still on the hats and other replica items in the clubshop is it not?</p>
RE: how come it I didn't say the logo was out-phasing the dog, or about phasing it off the merchandise. But last year there seemed to be a strong feeling among a section of fans, many on here I believe, who felt that Toby Tyke was not the best, shall I say, marketing image, for the club. And while it was felt that he appealed to younger fans and had his place on merchandise and other things, the public image side of the club was probably not the best place to feature him. That is why I am surprised that so many people now seem to be going for the only logo which predominantly features him. I'm not saying that's right or wrong. it just surprises me that's all.
My personal feeling is that the toby logo is crap and looks cheap. toby tyke himself is great though and the variation of the toby logo that appears on number 5 is a very modern take on the old badge which brings it into the 21st century. i would like to see that logo replace the old toby logo on merchandise.
