I think some of the responses to winning last night have shown that there is a section of fans who have a personal vendetta against Davey. I'm not saying we have turned the corner or are the best team ever. Similarly, when we were losing we weren't doomed or the worst team ever. I didn't go last night so can't comment on the performance but I have listened to all the reports and by all accounts we went 1-0 up and then had a real backs to the wall performance to defend it. I'm not necessarily a fan of this tactic, but when you have an away record as bad as ours then battling out 3 points is a top result. When we lose people say its because of Davey, when we win its inspite of Davey. That I'm afraid is NONSENSE. The recent home games have been excellent. Davey has got us playing really good football. We were also playing some really good stuff when we were losing but it was too sporadic. We are now sustaining it for longer periods and reaping the rewards. Goals is the problem but we have lost our goalscoring midfielder and our strikers aren't prolific but thats what the money we've spent on our strikers gets you. All in all I'll say the same now as i did when we were bottom. Davey isn't the worlds best manager and makes mistakes. Similar Davey isn't the worlds worst manager and does good things (the excellent Colace, Darren Moore, Anderson, JCR, Foster, FA Cup, keeiping us in The Championship for example). On balance he is doing a good job and sticking with him seems to be reaping the rewards. Lets ALL hope it continues....
Bang on Yet as soon as we lose, all those Davey haters who've disappeared overnight will be back again.
I refer the Right Honourable Gentlemen to the answer I gave earlier http://www.barnsleyfc.org.uk/bbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=124231&mid=822599#M822599 The people who do not want Mr Davey as manager are just as passionate about Barnsley FC as those who do. Also, they are just as entitled to air their views on this fans' forum as are Simon Davey's backers. Self righteousness is not very pleasant and can be self defeating.
Interestingly I didn't find the post self righteous at all. The problem with reading dry text I guess; we all read between the lines a little bit differently.
I'm sorry if it came over like that, ceratinly wasn't intended Just trying to make the point that it can't be Davey's fault when it goes wrong and nothing to do with him when it goes right
I have no problems with your comments at all, mate I'm just getting pig sick of hearing people (not you) using this good, recent run of ours to justify having a pop at fellow fans for simply having a different view to theirs. Cannot we all simply enjoy our first away win of the season? Apparently not. It's as if the only fans who are entitled to enjoy Barnsley winning games and playing well are those who want Simon Davey as manager. I have no problems with anyone having a different opinion to me, in fact I prefer it. However, I'm not having anyone question my passion and love for the club inferring I'm not wanting us to do well, simply because I'm not as impressed with the manager as they are.
That opening sentence, are you serious? You"think some of the responses to winning last night have shown that there is a section of fans who have a personal vendetta against Davey."</p> Don't you think it's just possible that some have the wherewithall to judge a manager on his overall performance and not his latest two results? That maybe they think his second half tactics were woeful and that we were lucky not to lose our lead against the worst side in the league? Personal vendetta my arse. </p>
Good one Don I want to see Davey learn from his mistakes and grow as a person and a manager. I don't see this. Freezing out players, tactics, etc.
Don't be ridiculous. You're either pro or anti Davey on here </p> Being able to make a judgement with your own eyes never comes into the equation.</p>
But surely thats what my post is saying There is a middle ground and if you think Davey shouldn't be sacked you can have the humility to say when he gets things wrong. Similarly if you think he should be sacked but we get 10 points out of 15 you should be able to say he's done something right. Your interpretation is last night's tactics were wrong. Another could be we got a goal, shut up shop as we have a solid back four, worked a dream and won 1-0. Job done. For me, we have done very well in recent home games and won last night without playing particularly well. Anyone who can't say well done after 10 points from 15 and says it is all in spite of him and he has had nothing to do with it can't be making their judgement of footballing reasons
When we've done well I've praised the team AND Simon Davey, especially when he got things right with things like substitutions. The way I see it, if I'm prepared to criticise him when I think he's got things wrong, then it's only right and proper to praise him when he gets things right.
RE: When we've done well thats the best way to be mate and your right thats how it should be. I agree with what your saying, i just find it hard to hold back when i see some of the awful stick and nastiness towards our manager and how hes been treated lately, i dont want to get at any of the fellow fans i just dont like how we treat some of our players and staff no matter what thats all, and i apologise if you thought i had criticised you or anyone else
Good post There was some idiot sat behind me last night and when Colace lost the ball in midfield he started ranting at Davey-moron.
No apologies necessary, mate My criticism of Simon Davey is based on how I think he's doing as manager ( I know our opinions differ on this). I never level personal criticism at him. When I'm down at Oakwell, I give everyone there my full backing during a game. This board is, for me, the perfect place and medium for voicing my opinions and/or frustrations.
RE: No apologies necessary, mate yep your 100% right i just didnt want it to come across in a different way to you or anyone else, afterall we do all want the same thing and thats a winning Barnsley team
