For those coming by car. You won't get much further down the a 61 than wadsley bridge club, without having to pay. There is now a retail park on Kilner way,so not an option. Street parking around Fox hill which is about 20 mins walk. The police don't let away fans in pubs too close to the ground. Last time a few went into the Fox on Fox Hill parallel to the a 61. Otherwise 6 pubs to choose from in Grenoside. Norfolk Arms and red lion on A61, in the village, another red lion, old harrow, the angel, cow and calf.(Sam Smith's..cheap) Also Greno w m c. Buses down to Hillsborough every half hour or so. Top Red in the village does food but service slow. Chippy next door to old harrow. The Angel is usually full of younger types. Coming from the city.. tram from city centre, or bus. Best pubs around kelham island... the fat cat, kelham island are real ale haunts, well worth a visit, and do food. You can tram from nearby, or walk ... half an hour. The new barracks tavern is ok if u get in early, better no colours... but it gets packed. Anywhere closer than this lot and you are struggling.
last time i went we parked in parsons cross a large pub but we met some wednesday fans we were working with,it was there local. it was about a 20 minute walk to ground on parkside lane. there was street parking up there near far lane. dont know how safe though we were in pub carpark
Heard it's shi.t for drinking in s6, so I think we'll be spending longer in town then getting the train over with a few cans later on.
Train to Sheffield. Tap. Brown Bear. Devonshire Cat. Div St. Tram from cathedral. Sorted. Seeing Black Rebel that night in Leeds as well. Could be a splendid day.
looking on google mpas. What about the residential areas further up the A61 than Kilner Way eg Binsted Avenue, Avisford Road etc. Don't mind a little walk. Or are the permit parking etc. Plan on getting there about 1:30. Dont know the area, so is there anywhere that i can head for where i'm very likley to get free parking within 20 minute wak to ground
Some decent pubs in Crookes / Walkley / Commonside. Blake Hotel and Hallamshire Hotel are both decent real ale boozers and the Chippy in Commonside 'New Cod on the Block' is excellent. Parking is relatively easy the further away you get from the dump at the bottom of the hill, although if it keeps snowing it will be nigh on impossible to get up here!
years ago when i used to go with mi dad and uncle we used to park where hillsboro rail station is. dont know if you can still park there but it was free and straight out onto a61
I know the Blake, it's not a bad pub - ***** area though. I've got a mate lives with a lass from Ruskin Park, works for Midland Mainline. There's a couple more Reds fans use it, but I don't know them. It'll be handy next week, Hillsborough's only 10 minutes further on.
I'll be parking on he drive of a workmate that lives at the bottom end of Fox Hill Road, while he parks on the street for me. Not bad for a blunt either
Obviously my post was because most folks will nevertheless come down the A 61. Plus if you want a drink I'd steer clear of anywhere on that road ... Anything after Oughtibridge will be awful. The quickest way back to Barnsley we have done (and we've done it loads of different ways) is to Park just off Fox Hill Lane, coming away heading up the Hill, take a left into the estate, follow it round coming out at the Cow and Calf. This skips all the queues at Grenoside, and then straight up Woodhead Rd through Greno Woods, through Wortley, round the back of Stainborough, Gilroyd, up to Broadway. Doddle.
