they do come across as a bit of a miserable bunch.

That is all anybody wants. You and many others take the option of believing everything is ok and getting behind the club in anything it does (or doesnt do) other people look at things and see that something isnt right so they voice their concerns in the hope that somebody will listen.

both approaches want what is best for the club, yours by backing them in what they do, ours by trying to change what they do for the better. There is nothing wrong with either and neither of them are the wrong approach, they are just two different styles of going about things.
