We’ll beat Brentford and Luton will beat Blackburn. Charlton will lose to Leeds. Wigan won’t lose to Fulham. We finish third at bottom but await Wigan to have their points deducted to keep us up. It doesn’t happen. The EFL backs out and relegates Barnsley. Power trip over Conway gobbing off over the last few months about EFL being unfit for purpose and clubs constantly breaking the rules. Either way, we haven’t been good enough this season. Be good to get away with it like.
For me I can see two outcomes, we either win the game but all the others down the bottom win anyway so we go down despite the win. Or we start well, fail to take any chances, get caught on the break and then collapse and get beaten comfortably
At no point this season other than the first match have I thought we would stay up. Then lady luck helped us out a bit on Sunday. I'm starting to think that we might scrape safety. I'm not sure of the exact permutations but all we can do is win and see how other results fall.
The Wigan point deduction is happening, it’ll be applied after Wednesday’s game. If we finish ‘fourth bottom’ due to their point deduction, and their appeal is successful, I struggle to imagine the EFL going back and relegating us. For that reason I really don’t think their appeal will be successful.
Hope I’m wrong but I just don’t see us beating Brentford. They are a truly outstanding side with a brilliant home record. They’ve got the best striker and centre half pairings in the league for me. If we can pull off a win there it’ll be a fantastic effort.
I think Leeds will beat Charlton and Luton will beat Blackburn. That just leaves Wigan needing to not win, and of course us to beat Brentford. Tough call.
Standard Barnsley if we pull a win out of the bag and end up going down anyway. So I imagine that's what'll happen.
It's the beating Brentford part that's the problem. Some people make it sound like nipping down the supermarket. What would you like? Oh I'll have a pound of mince and a beating for Brentford. O.k here you go.
I think points will be deducted from Wigan on Wednesday, we will then sit in limbo waiting for the appeal to take place.
Thinking about Wigan, does anything come off their goal difference because by rights at least 4 goals should?
They should alter the rule to be that goal difference doesn't count if your misdemeanours relegate another club.
Ha, ha - yes. Brentford are a great team and are playing for automatic promotion to the Premier League. Something tells me Brentford might be up for this one. Seems like Luton are the ones who have the best chance of pulling off what was once the unlikeliest of escapes.
