Err no... 3 years in and we till insist on a members bar, occupied by virtually nobody, excluding families. I can understand the no kids bit, but why waste space and staff time on something that no-one uses?
Which i find a bit odd, given how people constantly call for a 'supporter's bar'. We have one, but people don't use it for some reason. Not quite sure what else people want, tbh. I'll give it a go, see what it's like. If it's no good, at least it's another £40 to the Club
For one I've not ever heard anyone say owt good about it. I went in once on Turveys book launch. The place is lifeless, overpriced and devoid of any atmosphere. Like I've championed on here before and most recently this week. TV screens, old DVDs, recent away matches etc etc. I'd part with my 'hard' earned!!!!!!! I might be totally wrong and if so I'll apologise if my interpretation is wrong. But it's holds little or no appeal to me. I've a 9 year old lad I take in town(in kid friendly pubs) as such it's not for me. But good luck to those who enjoy.
Think it's a losing battle to get most folk to have a drink outside of town before the game, bit of a ritual for some.
Just reckon (like were steadily finding out) we've all been starved of any attempt to get us near Oakwell on match day before 3pm for years. I understand the Preedys idea although I think that it could have been handled so much more differently and with greater success. Anyway, heres to bigger, better, brighter future.
3 n half quid a pint? Few folk in their right mind will give up a pint in the most, town etc for that. Given you can get a pint for around £2 a pint if your on the ball.
But it also helps the town, there are pubs that probably pretty much rely on their take on match days,
Never been in but Preedy's sounds like a very half-baked attempt at a supporters bar - the thing we came used to under Don so he could say "we gave you what you wanted but you didn't use it". I know Ben Mansford has been saying he wants to get people out of town and spend their whole afternoon at the club - there would have to massive change in the options available at the club for me and a lot of the people I go to the games with to do this. For years I've gone into town at about 12 for Saturday home games, drank good reasonably priced beer in several busy pubs, called to the bookies and grabbed something from Greggs in between and this works for me. I normally get in the ground seconds before kick-off. It would have to be something like a Shearer's bar type place to get me to go to the club earlier, but you're probably talking £500,000+ to come up with something like that...and no idea where they'd put it. Maybe would work in a redeveloped West Stand in the long-term future...call it Ronnies or summat.
In which case, I doubt the Club are targeting you. Which is fine. I find it strange though, that you feel it needs a 'massive change' and 500k+ for something you've never actually seen I'll be checking it out on Saturday, then I'll be sending Ben an email with suggestions for improvement Enjoy your pasty
I had a card for first season it opened, but didn't renew it. Decor was pretty much mid-nineties Ladbrokes, poor selection of drinks and food, zombie like staff (must have poached them from the Ponty snack bar), and seem to remember it was quite expensive. Best thing about it - handy location for the match, and it had Sky. They might have improved it since, or be planning to.
I have seen a photo of Preedy's when it first opened...breeze block walls painted white with an opening in the wall as a bar and not much else in what looked like a completely soul-devoid room.
