With the Premiership becoming what now is a ‘profitable’ business with TV monies and the other handouts and earnings. Why can’t somebody see the potential in Barnsley FC. We have the ground (with a bit of improvement) to hold 30 plus thousand. We have the potential to attract the fans (look at yesterday 20,000 plus) Before I get the, ‘We have an investor already’ replies, I am talking of 15 to 20 million to buy the club and bring in Premiership potential players. We have some already but would need a further 8 or 10 to have a chance of making the top flight. I have heard the comments that we are not able to attract attendances of 30,000 plus in our catchment area, but bear in mind a large percentage of Premiership clubs bring 10,000 plus fans to their away games. Look at Sheffield United, Portsmouth, Bolton, remember the days when they were playing us with a following of 2000. Would anybody object to a ‘Chinaman’ ‘Arab’ or ‘American’ owning our club ?
Sheffield Utd and Bolton haven't got a Chinaman American etc..... they've built their clubs the right way and I'd like BFC to do the same. I wouldn't like to think they were at the whim of some foriegn investor.
Absolutely. Ten seasons of stability in the Championship is fine by me. Build from within, get the Academy to bear some fruit, adopt the same transfer policy that put the 96/97 squad together and let everyone HAVE PATIENCE. Good clubs aren't made overnight.
RE: Absolutely. United were at rock bottom when Colin was appointed... also loads of owls were wanting Bates as their chairman.. not so noisey on football heaven now are they ?
RE: Absolutely. But we've been trying this for almost ten years and it dosn't work you need a mixture of local talent and investment. Our investment at the moment is purely 'Survival Rations'
By "box office signings" they actually were on about bringing in some more staff to work in our box office to answer the telephones more often when fans ring up.
No we haven't. It's been ten years of IMPATIENCE!! Managers sacked at the first sign of trouble, expectations of a quick return to the Premiership, bizarre signings and a crowd far too quick to judge.
RE: Absolutely. Sorry mate but we haven't. We threw money at trying to get back into the premier league and we know what the result of that was. Also a foreign investor would be looking for a return on capital invested that can only be achieved in the premier league. If a club does not get there then they are more than likely to withdraw their investment and leave the club with players on contracts that cannot be fulfilled which means possible administration. Remember approximately 15 years ago a stock market quotation was the way to go, that seemed a great idea at the time.
I think the foreign investment will work for the super clubs who have a brand image, the others I think it may be detrimental in the long term.

The football club doesnt have any assets does it? Where would be the benefit of owning a football club with no assets?
How would you get a return on your investment?
