I still don't think that 451 really suits us as Winnall is either isolated up front or playing too deep however when player like Watkins are putting in the effort that they are then as shown today you only need to have someone on the end of things once or twice to get a result.

That's not intended as criticism of the formation because as I said it worked but I think two up front with the same level of effort would be more fruitful in general.

Anyway apart from the work rate the big positive for me is out and out wingers. Playing those two has really helped us, not just going forwards but its helped the full backs massively in defence too as they aren't out numbered every time a ball goes down the sides. It's no coincidence that smith for MOTM and wabara was running him close.

The other praise from me is the switch in the second half bringing smith on WITH winnall for a change. It allowed us to keep pushing rather than trying to defend a lead which I think has cost us too many times.

Edit: if I could I'd change the title to great match because pretty good sounds too negative

Winnall did drop into midfield though when Smith came on.

He did but being naturally a striker it meant he went up more often than a 'normal' midfielder would I think.
