our lass has been applying for jobs in schools, she went for an job as a teaching assistant in a school which advertised 17-19k. long story short she got the job and its working 32 and a half hours when she went to sign contract they said it was 17k pro rata and becuase her hours are only 32 1/2 she will only get summit like 12kish???

is this rite? i thought 32 1/2 hours would class as full time?

If its a 37hr week and its 17k pro rata for 32.5 hrs it should be just short of 15k a year

What Durkar said. Pro-Rata means you get paid the full time salary minus the hours you don't work full-time, "full-time" tends to be classed as 37 hours a week.

Where I work our week is 37.5 hours long. 32.5 hours pro rata £17k p.a. should be ~£14.7

In a school she won't work the holidays, so that will bring it down further but in compensation she has 13 weeks a year annual leave...
