I did the same - purely tactical. Sounds like most of the 905 area will turn blue though. The incumbent Liberal in this riding is fairly right wing anyway. Definitely not a night for celebrating.

Does that mean all the American Liberals that legged it over the border after Bush's re-election are legging it back again?

Oh aye, I'd come back and probably will - to Europe if not UK. Didn't move here with the idea that it was for good anyway. Have lived in a few countries - I think you have to enjoy what they can offer and move on when it feels right. Been here five years - set for a few more.

On the whole: yes. Took a while to grow on me though.

Why? Hmm, not as easy as somewhere like England: proper beer, comedy, moors, cheese, footy, newspapers, irony etc.

    But here goes:

    Space
    Cottage country
Less obvious petty crime (lots of doors left open)
Multicultural society (which generally works well)
    Kids' schools
Not much of a class system (this can also make life less interesting)
    Cost of housing/living
    Lots of genuinely friendly folk
    Canoeing
    Forests
    Real seasons
    Tim Horton's coffee
    Northern lights
Mountains / Prairies / Arctic tundra etc
Right to be educated in either official language
    Lobster
Early morning winter runs of -25 degrees.
No one takes the piss when Yeovil beat us...
    National symbol: beaver

    Thanks, good call............now the negatives

I agree with most of what you say and it has many things going for it
But further to your list of negatives these are some of my findings

The people are standoffish, they are not approachable compared to TARN folk. In saying this I think TARN folk are the most approachable people I have come across. Although like you say they are freindly when you get to know them. I think this is because it is highly multi-cultural
People seem to be false could describe this as sort of plastic. Even on the tele people dont seem genuine some how eg. newsreaders
The social scene seems to be non exsistant. They dont have a pub culture. This is important even if you dont go to pubs that often. There is nothing in villages and towns that brings the community together
The weather is horrendous, + 35C with high humidity in summer, - 25C with snow in winter. Spring only lasts for 3 weeks and during this time it can switch from -20 to +30C during one day.
The 401 (need I say more!!!)
Pockets of the population are isolated from each other
