Is this the correct grammar? "how many goals is Arsenal going to score?" and "But Arsenal is not average - in fact they have scored..."</p> </p> Is it correc to say IS arsenal or should it be ARE arsenal?</p>
It doesn't lok right to me either but as people might have noticed I'm not exactly Shakespeare or Rob Knowles
Uses "is" followed by "they" Rubbish if you ask me, Arsenal "are" a team, a collective therefore the use of "is" is incorrect and it should be "are".
Looks odd, doesn't it? Personally in that context I'd always use 'are' but I'm not sure it's actually wrong per se. At work, for instance, we've got a team called the 'Green Team' and it would be perfectly acceptable IMO to say either "The Green Team are helping us this week" or "The Green Team is helping us this week". You get the same problem with companies - should it be "Virgin Atlantic has posted a profit this week" or "Virgin Atlantic have posted a profit this week"?
If you go by his win or loss predictions, then I think a lot would pay out. However, I think the actual score predictions aren't going to win you much.
Both are correct. Although in English we are more likely to use 'are'. The Yanks on the other hand would use 'is'. But we're English.
