I can't work out which I'd prefer. We're on a good run, and plenty of evidence suggests that Lee Johnson's role in recruitment, development of the Academy etc was smaller than for previous managers. Coupled with the club statement the other day, they're factors that would indicate we should keep as much stability as possible and see where this run of form takes us. My only concern with this is that the run wasn't going to last forever, with or without LJ. When a dip comes, will it be automatically attributed to the new gaffer? But I can't help feeling that this is a golden opportunity. We're a more attractive proposition to potential managers/head coaches/whatever than we have been for at least a decade. Loads of folk have mentioned Wembley and the possibility of the play offs, but surely everyone in the game also knows about Stones' sell on clause and the impact that could have on the club, should Patrick decide that's where it should go? OK, it's not the megabucks that most Championship sides chuck about, but it could be a major helping hand towards implementing the strategy we have (buy young, improve and sell). Maybe, just maybe, someone out there might think "I'd back myself to get them up and keep them there" rather than "if I get them up the best I can hope for is 4th bottom and the sack at Xmas." I hope the club at least test the waters. I suppose Ben's phone is likely to have been ringing plenty this week so they'll already have an idea who's interested. Either way, I think we'll end up better off than we were a few weeks back.
Usually people see promoting from within as a cheap option - but that's after a sacking, when there is clamour for wholesale change. After a resignation to take a perceived bigger job, the situation is a little different, and continuity has to be the key. Hunter after Clark went to Leeds and Danny after Anderson went to Boro for example. Therefore, I'd be really happy if Tommy Wright and Hecky were to be given the job at least on an interim basis. In the current situation, it's not the cheap option - it's just common sense.
