Over the years Barnsley never wanted promotion Richards was quite content to sell all best players and we then started again. Dwelled in bottom tier. Patrick Clyne is not same as Richards but it must be a dilemma As we are with this policy, we develop best youngsters and if offer right sell them No old mercenary types wanting a pay check So if we get promoted, what then. To survive we will need extra players in the squad able to compete in the championship these to add to existing. The existing players will want championship money How much will it all cost. A right dilemma for Partick as he has been there before. Prize money no where near Prem and mostly got to come from gate money. Balancing books wil be top priority but at a greater scale. Hope we get promoted as I do not have the headache.
The difference in income is around £6 million so clearly getting promoted is better than not I dare say getting promoted this season then relegated next will be significantly more financially beneficial then staying in League 1 in both
Considering the chances of keeping Hamill, Isgrove, White (Long ?) and retaining Winnall, Hourihane etc would be greatly enhanced in the Championship I'd say promotion is a must. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I still think we are being sold austerity, in the disguise of "going with youth".So I wouldn't set any hopes too high. Just a lot more of the same... promotion or not.
Got to take promotion every time otherwise you question the point of competing. However, it would be a monumental struggle once again should we get to the Championship and I can see very good arguments that a slightly longer spell in League One has it's advantages. We may get more money as a Championship team but I would imagine PC would have to dip very deep once again to make us competitive. Just the possible increase in our own player's wages would be pretty big considering the pay gap between the two leagues. I worry that promotion would once again see our young players development halted and the likes of Roberts, Bree, Templeton, Williams, Smith and the rest simply wouldn't get the opportunity to develop week on week as they have done this year. But then again the allure of big games and bigger crowds is understandable.
Promotion back to the championship must be the minimum requirement in our ambitions. It is for me and every other fan that I know.
We'll really, really get smashed if we go up. And ticket prices would rise to at least £35 on the day. But promotion would be so unexpected that I'd happily take the beatings I fear we'd receive.
He was owner in fifties, big business man in Barnsley and was a big wig in FA, Sold Tommy Taylor even though Tommy didn't want to go.
He was a former chairman of Barnsley who was also president of the Football League. His name appears to this day on the Football League Cup. <img src ="http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/images/46624000/jpg/_46624395_4.01.leaguecup2000.jpg">

Wages are 4/5 times higher but the cash injection as a gift is not allowed to be 4/5 times higher. If we go up we probably can't afford to keep best players unles crowds go up regularly by 5k.
If we do go up then we will need a board of directors with more money than what Patrick has got If not, then we will be anchored to the bottom for years like we were last time we were in that division Consequence of this will be a further gradual reduction in attendances..........which we can ill afford
If we don't want to go up what's the point? We might as well jack it in and let the council build some flats, simple as that!
Re: If we don't want to go up No brainier Championship next year would be like no other Ok,not all of the following will still be there but....... Villa, Newcastle,Sunderland,Norwich Middlesbrough,Derby,Wendies, forest,Huddersfield, hull,Leeds, wolves Some great attendances to be had there
Re: If we don't want to go up On balance any promotion is good but I would fully expect us to struggle and get relegated. The path we are going down of developing young players and realising their potential is a difficult one to balance as Petsrborough have shown.
