Just looking at league tables. Bristol City who were good last year, MKDons same, Preston decent Brentford and Bolton again, all propping division up. Expect Rotherham to be in it also So if we get promoted how would we survive. Would our young team hack it or would we need to further invest. If so, where would we get the money. Are we better watching good matches and wins or getting put to the sword regular. Makes you ponder.
I only could see us staying up if we made some signings where they have Premier League and Championship experience, buying from L1 & L2 wouldn't go down too well in that division.
It depends on the quality of the player. Theres a fair few in this league I'd say are ready to step up to the championship and have the quality to succeed up there. We could certainly use some experience even this league but the quality of player is more important. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thats what im thinking, it wouldnt be the age, like more of a player thats had 2-3 seasons in the Prem/Champ, Someone like Dwight Gayle who is young but has that quality what would come in handy in the Championship. Someone who has the quality ready made instead of a gamble signing.
Never be able to afford someone like him now though, itd be a choice of going back to 30+ has beens and trying to get a season out of them or taking the gamble on someone like Bradshaw. Id go for the latter. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Unless our young players both bought and developed could make the next step forwards then we would get relegated.
We have had this discussion already.......... Basically it would be a bad move to get promoted while PC is the owner. Because we would inevitably be anchored to the bottom of the Championship like we were last time around..........which would lead to even more fans leaving the club If we are serious about the Championship then we need a new owner with the buying capacity to 'prime the pump' which would bring the fans back.
If we get promoted we will replace the guys we have no who don't belong to us, with other guys who don't belong to us. At christmas guys like Winnall and Hourihane will be halfway through their three year contracts and we know what we are like for not speaking about renewing early enough (Holgate for example).
I'm trying to get the sheik here to pull a few coins out of his pockets but he is more into horse racing that football. You got to try anyway.
Promotion would be a great thing. Anyone saying otherwise may as well stay at home, find another hobby. There's more to supporting your club than success and winning, but it's a big old factor, hence us all whingeing when we lose. Of course it's likely to be a struggle again should we return to the second tier, but sooner that than this, thanks. As for worrying about this that and t'other if we are promoted, let's wait until next summer eh?
I noticed that we had only 2 loanees in our starting 11 on Saturday. There were two more on the bench, so two loanees were not good enough to even challenge for a place on the bench. Six loanees to not working. If we were to go up at the end of this season, I believe at least half of the squad (the spine of the team) should be ready for the higher division or we risk being unable to gain a foothold, just like last time. I do not think that 6 of our nine players that made the starting eleven will be ready by then, in which case, I think it better to remain where we are and build a better squad over the next 4 transfer windows. That will also give some of our younger players the time to mature. Even then, it will be hard to establish the team in the higher division, unless Real Madrid persuade Everton to sell John Stones. I know that you want to just take things as they come, but for the club, forward planning is vitally important. Remember that players signed in the higher division will command wages that make them hard to retain if the club is immediately relegated back to the lower division because of SCMP. This would be an even more wasteful exercise than constantly sacking managers.
If we got promoted I'd be perfectly satisfied becoming a yo-yo club for a few years. It would be nice to have faith in a manager if we're bottom at Christmas and not sack them even if we went down
As most of this squad are young and continuing to develop, there's no reason why their development couldn't be able to handle that step up in class. Some will take it in their stride, others may well struggle. Perhaps one or two of the current loan signings can become permanent deals, either in the January transfer window or next Summer. There's no doubt investment would need to be made in order to strengthen the squad. But that applies to nearly every promoted club. I think everyone down at Oakwell would be more than happy were they to be presented with the problem.
I still watch Championship football, it's not as good a standard as the obscene prices would have you believe, and I say that as someone close to a lad who's now deemed a £6m player. Whereas 12 months ago he was worth 300k. I hope to watch Winnall, Hourihane, Mawson, Scowen, Smith etc in the Championship, for the reds. No idea how they'd do. But I do know it isn't the jump folk suggest. We had some shocking footballers and many had bad attitudes when we were eventually relegated, it's not like we went down with a cracking squad.
Have to agree Would we take that stance if promotion to the premier league was the next step. I don't think anyone would
