Ollie Pearce just notched his 16th of the season having gone there from Worthing in the summer. He scored 155 goals in 245 games on the south coast.

Ok, he’s non-league, and he’s 29, but surely that kind of scoring record deserves a look given our need for a goal scorer. If the experiment failed it wouldn’t cost the club much but he just might make the step up?

I'd be slightly sad if we derailed York's promotion challenge on a whim of a punt.

Well these things happen in football, including to us. Bigger fish mop up the best players from lower down. No reason why we shouldn't do it as well. I'd not heard of the lad until tonight when Sky Sports announced his 16th of the season so I looked him up. Very impressive record but it might be too late for him to make it at league level. On the other hand...:)

I accept and understand all that, how football is etc.

Was just posting how I'd feel about it. Have a soft spot for York, fair few mates that follow them, been to plenty of their games myself. Would rather us not ruin their season, as I doubt it'd work out as planned (when does it ever for us with non league strikers).

We aren't going to be looking at someone from the non league who's nearly 30 and nor should we be.

I've got a lot of time for City as well - I always enjoyed going to Bootham Crescent. I've not been to their new ground yet though despite often parking next to it when we shop at M&S Vangarde. I'll try to get there at least once this season but not had a chance yet.

As for derailing their promotion campaign, that doesn't always happen. Walsall just lost Lowe but won the next game and are still flying. One man doesn't make a team, wherever you look.

I didn't even realise that they had a new ground. Is it one of those out of town areas or close to the city centre?

I understand that viewpoint but a natural goalscorer often makes the transition even if it is going up a couple of levels. I bet plenty of fans complained when we paid Darlington £150K for David Currie but that worked out well.

Of course this was in pre-internet days so there was no online campaign to do him down before he kicked a ball for us.

As I just said, it's part of the Vangarde shopping area which is just off the northern ring road, a few miles out of town. It's a very modern set up, of course, but I always loved the old Bootham Crescent visits.

Andy Dallas scored at around 1 in 2 at a higher level. Why bother taking a punt on brining in someone new when we've already got him?

In those days it was wayyyyy easier to make a step up too.
