Just got home. This is JUST an opinion, as it seems some people think you aren't allowed one. Pros: We only conceded 3. Believe me, Wolves got into some good positions and created a lot of chances. WE created some good opportunities in the first half. I can think of 4 or 5. We look a bit more dangerous playing with 2 up front. More options rather than relying on Davies. Cwyka. Looks a very good player that Keef has brought in. Our best player tonight IMO. Think the result was more Wolves playing very well and having more quality, than us being totally crap! Cons: Harewood not match fit. Hope he contributes more when he is fit. Just for the benefit of the people that are going to pick my post apart, I do NOT think he is a bad player. At the risk of upsetting the same people. Mellis. . . . Needs to toughen up. I know he has the creative role in the team and he isn't a ball winner, I.E Perkins. Needs to get a challenge in. Again, I do NOT think he is a bad player. We may just have to accept he may have the odd bad game. Just in general, we gave the ball away very easily. FFS, SHOOT. The lads sat behind us summed it up very well in the first half, where it was believed only Davies is allowed to shoot. Still. I won't lose too much sleep over a 3-1 defeat at Wolves.
Good points. Harewood will get fitter. He did loads of running on Saturday and only a day or so to recover from that. He's not played much football recent. Said the same thing about Mellis on Saturday.
"Only" conceding three can't be seen as a pro in my mind. Last we might have conceded four or five but I can't accept conceding three as a positive. Especially if that was down to poor finishing rather than last ditch tackles or excellent goalkeeping.
Excellent post, things can only get better and with the injured players coming back from now until xmas things will improve. I actually think we may have a good second half to the season this time round.
Cheers for the report. Interesting about the failure to shoot. A noticeable difference last season (particularly earlier on) was the amount of shots we were getting away. It seemed the majority were coming from either long distance efforts from Vaz, Butterfield and Drinkwater or players pouncing on rebounds from long distance shots. It's probably to do with the fact that we don't really have recognised goalscorers in our midfield this year. I suspect, if we're going to survive the midfield are going to have to chip in with their fair share.
Whatthaonabaaarrt, a midfielder is our joint top scorer??!! To be fair to Harewood he's only had a handful of games since he left us the first time, he's also no spring chicken but I think he will come good. He said 15 goals is a target he sets himself every season and I think they both have to aim for that. I agree the midfield has to chip in with a fair amount of goals, but we're all wingers and holders and need that driving midfielder who is going to get into forward and not be afraid to shoot. Perhaps Sniffka is the man, or young Digby?
A balanced report, after listening to SSN it seemed Wolves were the better side with a largely premiership squad but that the reds had good periods of play when a better final ball would have produced goals. With a scratch side being forced upon us due to the injury situation I think it has been an encouraging start and feel we can compete with most teams in this league.
Good report How did our keeper play? Only seen the goals which he was at fault for two of them, but apart from that was he alright? Ta
