this saturday in any shape or form? Personally I’d like to see all the fans holding up red cards to the board as a peaceful protest.
I think the old Donny Rovers way - fans in the centre circle - is highly effective. You will get the usual boo boys (and girls) who don't like pitch invasions full-stop, but we're not talking about your end-of-season, half-assed amble on to the pitch, we're talking game-stopping, board out mass invasion. Groups on Facebook, leaflets, posters, shouting in pubs - while well-intentioned and rightfully displaying discontent - won't do anything. I don't think staying away will do much either. I can't see it happening here, but I found that whole period during Donny's history as a club tragic yet admirable. Their fans had nothing to lose, and they took direct, peaceful action at a time when their chairman was burning their club, literally. A good watch, and a lesson on how not to run a football club and treat fans:
Not on Facebook but if this “group” had the money to buy the owners out they should put up or shut up.Seeing is believing.
That was an amazing time, the chairman put a Salford gangster in charge of the team in a concerted effort to close them down, after putting an advert in the newspaper for the sale of the land the ground was on, makes our lot look like saints. He then tried to burn the ground down, he was also warned off racecourses for famously running a horse as a different horse - Flockton Gray I think it was called, still allowed to take over even with that conviction.
Yes, a royal scumbag. I remember the desperation seeping through the weekly updates on Calendar/Look North, and their complete decline as a club at a time when we were flying. Had a lasting impression on me, and I've had a soft spot for them ever since. Others won't see it that way of course. But they could so easily have gone under in appalling circumstances.
I will be protesting by watching a dodgy stream instead of using my season ticket. They’ve had my money but the thought is there.
I can imagine there may will be some dissenting voices directed towards some lovely people on Saturday.
Haha my thoughts exactly!! I think people need to remember, we are dropping down to League 1. Yes it is with a whimper, yes it appears to be spineless, but it's League 1. Familiar territory. I don't think any fan wants us to drop below that, but a fair few are talking about it as if League 2 - possibly Vanamara!! - is a foregone conclusion, almost tempting fate. I don't get that mentality. I do get the need for change, I do think for many it is possibly the most depressing time to support the club (in their personal history of supporting the club), but I also think this is one bad season and we'll go again next year. I don't particularly like the owners, I don't like their model, I would like them to go personally, but with a replacement who has the best interests of the club at heart, but i don't think we are just dropping like a stone and won't recover. We could have a good season next year and the feeling amongst the masses would change, I'm sure of that. I remember just before the world stopped, Reading away, when there was absolutely nothing about us, the fans were singing the 'you're killing our club' song, and a few weeks before at Charlton when again the mood soon turned toxic. We were passing the ball about with no end product, nothing to show for our efforts, and making unforced errors because the pressure was on and we were at the wrong end of the table. Skip forwards a few months (with the season restart) and we looked like a different team; we had the great escape, fans went from apathy (it definitely existed during that time under Stuber too!) to euphoria, and then we followed it up with one of the best seasons in our history - it's just a shame we didn't get to see it in person, and when we did eventually get to go back we are subjected to this shower. But football goes up and down. This is a down. But not a Donny Rovers 97/98 down
Probably same as me really cant be arsed to go and watch us get a hammering. I may just **** it off all together go for walk instead watching that spinless display tuesday night just pissed me off
How about what Birmingham did at weekend invade the west stand with a few songs "you can shove you flatbread up yer arse" "we want conman out" etc
I get what you’re saying but 2 years ago the club still had money in the bank. Not now, and with a massive loss of revenue coming any signings are going to be on the very cheap side. Our budget is likely to be at the lower end of L1. Hard to believe but likely true.
I believe the key is to retain as much quality as possible. At the moment most players aren't displaying their quality of course, but if we keep any number of Collins, Mads, Helik, Brittain, Styles, Morris, Woodrow, those players would thrive in League 1. Add to that those players whose development would likely speed up in the league below (Kitching, Benson, Hondermarck, Iseka, Cole) and we could look to push on. If, for example, Mads and Helik were both sold, or Woodrow and Morris, or a combination of both (i.e. the spine of the team)... it doesn't bear thinking about.
I admire your guarded optimism but I don't share it. I think we are in serious decline with this ownership group and will fall further over time unless something is done to stop the rot. You're right to point out that things aren't terminal but they are heading that way in my opinion. I think we are in very nasty waters here and unless there's a hidden gem or two in the youth ranks who can be sold for several million we will continue to deteriorate after relegation. My view of course.
