    Penistone Reds Supporters Club
    Monday 4 August 2008
    Crystal Palace, Thurlstone

    1. Mins of last meeting
    • Mins of last meeting were agreed and all actions completed.

    2. Review of York & Rotherham
    • A minibus was hired for York and 8 travelled. Good journey – and keeping minibus contact on record.
    • Globe coaches used for Rotherham and 22 travelled. Poor transportation which was addressed with the company.

    3. Review of Barnsley FC Open Day
    • Day went really well, partly thanks to the great weather. Plenty of fans showed an interest.
    • Raised £375 on the day for signed Barnsley shirt which was won by a fan from Peterborough (Blue 001-005 ticket).
    • An article was placed in the Chronicle by Howard Robinson (HR). Arthur Wilson (AW) thanked all for their help.
    • Barry Curtis (BC) agreed great day but disappointed about number of new members recruited. Lesson to be learnt for next year. NB - No stalls selling kids sweets which is something to do next time.

    4. Car Boot Sale
    • Rob Letherland (RL) explained how the opportunity had come about to hold a car boot sale in Penistone. He was currently trying to find out what permissions etc were needed. He was looking for a late September/early October Sunday date to hold the event.

    5. Treasurer’s Report
    • RL reported that we had a current balance of £839. 50. However, we still needed to keep the fund raising going for any unexpected costs which may arise in the future. There were now 43 paid-up members.

    6. Browns Coaches
    • AW and Andy Wilson (AW) had a meeting with Brown Coaches who seemed to be very willing to help in any way possible. They would sort out all contact with the Police. They were more expensive than Globe but still offered prices which could not be beaten by any other supporters group. Further info on Browns coached can be found at www.BrownsCoaches.com
    • They did insist that all passengers must wear a seat belt at all times. BC said this should be added to the Coach rules which are permanently displayed on the notice board. BC to action.

    7. Away Fixtures for August & September
    • 09/08 QPR – 10-13 Members (Outpost coaches)
    • 12/08 Crewe – 5-7 Members (Personal vehicles)
    • 23/08 Birmingham - 22-24 Members at present (Browns Coaches)
    • Interest in Blackpool, Southampton and Ipswich was shown. Members to confirm intentions ASAP.

    8. Membership
    • BC reported that were now 43 paid up members and 48 had shown interest in joining. A couple more joined on the evening.
    • Amongst the 48 were 3 under 16s (who are except from member fee).
    • BC asked that all membership cards be filled in fully together with a small photo as soon as possible.
    • HR to approach Barnsley Chronicle for an item on PRSC.

    9. Website
    • No further forward with own domain website but Paul Robinson (PR) said there would be action before the next meeting regarding this.
    • Cost would be about £10 a year.
    • PR said that the Facebook (www.facebook.com) site had 29 members and is useful for unlimited storage of pictures, videos and minutes. www.tarntalk.com also has dedicated PRSC pages and you don’t need an account (like Facebook) to view.
    • PR to action to take forward this week.

    10. London Tykes
    • BC reported that he had make contact but at the moment they were unable to come to Penistone for the Coventry. However they would like to know more and hope to visit later in the year. BC to action.

    11. BBQ
    • Due to the success of the BBQ in July, it was agreed a further one should be held in September when there is a free (football) weekend. The general set-up would mirror the July event.

    Date & time
    • The BBQ was to take place on Saturday 6 September starting at 14:00. Committee members should be present from 12.00 onwards to set up. Like previously, the event will be open for anyone who wants to attend.
    Location
    • The BBQ is to be held at Crystal Palace pub. Phil Welford (PW) to provide a gazebo and Dean [landlord] to arrange BBQ. All food is to be provided by Crystal Palace pub. Pub to be informed of numbers before the day.
    Bouncy Castles
    • AW to organise Bouncy Castles.
    Publicity
    • A note was to be place on the Penistone page of the Barnsley Chronicle by HR. HR was to design posters to advertise the event in the surrounding area. BC to have a stall to sign up new members on the day.
    Live Music
    • AW started that he would organise a live band to play at about tea time.
    Raffle
    • Members were asked to provide as many raffle prizes as possible. These can be left behind the bar at Crystal Palace.

    12. Peter Glover
    • Peter, a local businessman, was unfortunately unable to attend owing to other business. He hoped to attend the September meeting when sponsorship could be discussed.

    13. Pele – Radio Dearne
    • Pele was unable to attend owing to other business. He also hoped to attend the September meeting.

    14. Barnsley Media
    • AW introduced Mark Stokes from Barnsley Football Club Monthly – a publication set up in the spring. Mark stated that the BFM would be now become weekly and cost £1. HR was asked to provide an article on away games attended by PRSC, with pictures if possible.

    15 AOB
    • It was agreed that the Committee will meet at 19:15 for all future monthly meetings. Guests and other members are still invited to come for the 20:00 general meeting.
    • A reminder was given out that anyone wanting to go to Doncaster away may need a season tickets and/or away match stubs to get a ticket. A notice is on the board with more details.

..... firing up the Junkers in the hills ....

    west of Barnsley

I always thought it meant starting a 5 series BMW for an away trip to watch The Reds, but thinking about it now, it may be some sort of "code".

Can site Admin please commandeer the old match reports for evidence?

..."firing up the Junkers", "hills west of Barnsley" - however did we miss it?
