Has The Fitzwilliam Arms closed? Just tried ringing it & number not in use. Seemed to be the popular choice last year.

Otherwise, any suggestions for a hassle-free/ decent pub where I can meet friends of both teams? Prefer somewhere walking distance between station & ground (as opposed to Lakeside/ Dome etc), as I'm on train & meeting friends who are getting dropped off. Want to get something sorted before my Donny supporting pal suggests somewhere full of their fans.

    Cheers.

    Park Hotel.

Then you can nip down the side of it and down the hill to the ground, friendly pub and probably the closest. Say hello to my old Donny in laws for me, they'll be wearing the "Where's Wally" tops.

    RE: Park Hotel.

Can you cut across the fields then? Don't fancy a long walk around the roads/ lake.

Yeah if you look on google maps

come out of the pub turn right and go down Thoresby ave and then at the bottom you can cut through past the five a side pitches and to the back of the away end. This pub usually has both sets of supporters in. If your town earlier the Salutation ain't a bad pub to go in, although you will need a taxi to get closer to the ground from there) plenty of nice folk in. If l stayed at my exes we used to go there for a pint Saturday morning, both Barnsley and Donny were home so their fans used to come in and generally they'd ask if i'm going to the game today i'd reply "yes, i'm setting off to Oakwell in a bit i should be in Mount for around 2ish" they would look at me gone out, "you a Barnsley fan?"

Sounds alright, know where you mean - presumably comes in between the athletics track & the ground?

Is The Park walkable from the station then? Don't mind hiking to the pub, it's just once I'm there I don't want to shift until kick off time!! :D

Yeah, its a walk but its walkable...

20-25 mins walk, around a mile and half. The stadiums built for the purpose of the M18/M1 link rather than looking where the pubs are in Donny unfortunately!

Been to the stadium loads (athletics mainly) so know that end of town well, just never been to Donny on a train before! I'm all for a brisk walk to earn my pre match drink! (Y)
