Disgraceful.
Why has an issue been made of it ? Which 'insider' leaked details to the Star ?
Is someone after getting him out of Oakwell ?
Management ? My arse.

tend to agree-if he is awaiting a hearing then of course no details should be released-if it has been dealt with and he has been disciplined-fine/suspension? then it really isn't any of our business-it's not a criminal offence to break some fairly arbitrary guidelines on drinking-not gross misconduct or anything like that
Correct. After such a great end to the season, another turd is tossed into the swimming pool. Should have kept shut. Nothing to do with us this matter.

Plus, if we did the same to all our laikers who had a drink during the ban, we'd be playing with a team full of academy lads.
Sounds like someone has grassed him up for having a beer in his local. I deduce he's been caught out because he's a local lad who lives in the area.
Or they just want shut of him.....

if Simon Davey wants shut. all he has to do is tell GS not to offer a new contract-doesn't need to give reasons
RE: I think Simon Davey wants shut. Didnt Davey say the drinking ban was lifted?
Yes he can do that if he's a ruthless Russian Oligarch But he's manager of a football club and people will ask why he's not being offered a contract. Just "Because I can" is not an answer people will stomach comfortably.
RE: I think Simon Davey wants shut. You have to assume that this related to some boozing before the LCFC game.
Buta booze ban can't reallybe enforced. You can stop players boozing round town, but you can't stop players having a beer at home or one in their local on a sunday. So either he's been grassed up for having a quiet tipple, or he's done something comepletely stupid and gone out and sunk 10 pints somewhere in full view.

Arent you looking at this the wrong way? The Star got a story leaked (all papers have 'sources'),once the piece is leaked the manger makes a statement-which somebody has to -IMHO- as otherwise the rumourmill would go into overdrive re his being dropped for Sunday. If the decision has been made to drop him then you can assume that the matter has been investigated internally and Kay is guilty .If that is the case and he has broken conditions imposed by the manager then he has to be punished otherwise anarchy rules from then onwards as the managers aouthority isnt worth a **** (isnt that what people have complained about in the past) what the fecks he supposed to say Ahh its only Ant hes Barnsley through and through so I'll let him off.Like it or not if the manager is to have any authority at all he has to back himself or hes finished.
RE: I think Simon Davey wants shut. I've seen him in Darfield Cricket Club quoffing pints the Friday night before a game. A while since, but then again I don't usually go in there.
I'm not complaining that he's been disciplined. But why make it all public.
The initial statement said Kay wouldn't be playing. Fine, leave it at that.
It's just that in my opinion the club seem obsessed with having to justify every little thing they do, and thatis beyond me.

RE: I'm not complaining that he's been disciplined. maybe they feel they have to justify everything because some people feel the need for them to by posting/questioning on here ?? no names , no pack drills !!
Doesn't this kind of thing often happen in football If we had been told that he had been dropped for 'disciplinary reasons' everyone would be wanting to know what had gone on, speculating about this that and the other - all the club have done is remove all doubt. Whether we agree with it or not (I happen to) the club can put a ban on players drinking, the same as some clubs issue nutritional guidelines to their players. The players choices are simple, play by the clubs rules or don't play by the clubs rules. If you don't then be prepared for the consequences. I'd be up in arms in my employers tried to stop me doing something in my own time, but at the end of the day I could always sod off if I felt that strongly about it. The same applies to Kay and now I know exactly what has been going, there's no 'rift' as such; Kay has been told to pack in the ale, he hasn't and therein lies the route of the problem. The only caveat I'd add is that presumably Kay hasn't denied the allegation and has accepted the fine. If not and disciplinary proceedings are pending then the club certainly should not have made the public announcement. I have to assume that isn't the case however.
RE: I'm not complaining that he's been disciplined. I've said this before and I'll say it again, if the Board at a Professional Football Club are influenced and/or upsetby random postings on an unnoffical internet bulletin board then they shouldn't be running the club in the first place. And if they do read this site then more fool them.
There's a world of difference between liaising with fans' groups and the local media and then reacting to a posting on a site like this. Why don't they have tape recorders in The Groggers before a match then they can issue replies/corrections to folk in there spouting off far and away more aggressive and critical opinions about The Board/Davey/Players than are ever posted on here ? Can folk not have critical opinions ? Must there be no dissent ? Sorry and all that, but they put themselves there, it comes with the territory.
Just get on with the job at hand and let the fans prattle on. Jesus truly wept.

RE: Doesn't this kind of thing often happen in football I'm sure it does. Fans will always speculate about everything, it's what we do. Unless they're trying to shame Kay into altering his behaviour ? But if that's the case then I think they may get a poor reaction.
