Looks like Pharoahs has had big extension on doubled in size. The the pub next door which has been shut about 5 years is also being renovated. Does anybody know owt? Seems a bit daft to me when the pubs that are already open can't make enough money to earn a decent living.
Once the nightclub opens.... that side of town will become busy again the pub next door to a night club will do good business, like it used to when Pharoahs was in full swing.
RE: Once the nightclub opens.... cant see club doin owt me sen. That is unless it gets gigs on in there. Like some quite popular bands. Otherwise it will do ok but put Livos or Walkabout out of business.
RE: My mate has bought the old Silvers Looks like he is spending a lot money doing it up. I'm sure look a lot better anyway. I just hope the club attracts more people into Barnsley and it doesn't just mean one of the other clubs will close.
He will do it up properly, he'll not just give it a lick of paint He's not running it, he's leasing it out. I can't see that nightclub doing anything myself, just another cloned chav dance place with nice carpets and some fancy flashing lights. And probably a black man in the toilets selling splashes of Brut and charging a quid for a Lolly.
Its going to be an Escapade Nightclub. A decent chain so would imagine they would have a few decent events. Did hear a so called superclub would be opening soon where Heaven and Hell used to be. About time Barnsley got some proper nightclubs again. The Hedenism could be a good spot for a big revamp.

we don't get enough people coming into town for more than what we have at present to be viable. If the new clubs offer something new. Say for example it was a Carling Academy and having live music on...this would attract whole new crowds. Otherwise they will simply steal the clientelle of Walkabout and Livingstones and so the merrygoround of clubs shutting will continue.
RE: Fingers crossed Come watch the free concert in Huddersfield in the summer with the other 10k people (Y) (Y) (Y)
2 big reasons It takes such a big amount of money to attract the bigger named bands and setting a proper large venue is very expensive and takes more staff. Plus, a large amount of the Barnsley public are stuck in a time warp. Most people would never risk a fiver on going in somewhere to see a band or two they'd not heard of, if a big venue did open it couldn't be 7 nights of named bands and would need people to still go in regulally to watch unsigned bands. Bigger towns and cities that have Universities are able to have good venues, you'll get students and ex students going to see a few bands instead of playing it safe and sticking to a Walkabout style place to dance to Kylie.
RE: 2 big reasons I agree. But the new tonic should be a big enough venue? Lots of people travel out of Barnsley to gigs. We are not all stuck in a time warp, and surely we could attract non Barnsley folk?
RE: 2 big reasons Academy Music Group venues: Shepherd's Bush, Brixton, Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool, Islington, Newcastle, Oxford, Brighton, Sheffield, Leeds (opens Autumn). Can't see Barnsley fitting into that list somehow.
