Question about Barnsley Building Society

    not sure whether people no but there having problems with the credit crunch... all info here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7683576.stm

    if the yorkshire building society has to bail them out, does it mean they have to change there name? if they do what happens to the sponsorship we have with them?

    Think I saw it somewhere that the names of branches wont change and none will close for forseeable future

    Local news said

    Yorkshire BS takeover should be effective as of 31st Dec. BBS will become a part of YBS. However they expect local branches to maintain the BBS name & minimal job losses. Didn't mention sponsorship.

    on radio sheff this morning, yorkshire bs said nowt would change in the names,
    then again, they played an interview from 3 weeks ago when bbs said they didn't rely on the icelandic money ******

    The new society will trade under the Bradford-based Yorkshire name, but the Barnsley name will remain - along with retention of The Barnsley's strong community connections - which includes sponsorship of Barnsley Football Club.

    From what i understand on the Yorkshire Building society website, they are remianing two seprate comapnies so i cannot see them changing the sponsour. It is a merger afterall, which means they have not taken over, they have just come together which will make both stronger.

    No one will loose anything and if anything, individuals will gain and this will not effect the football club in anyway as far as i can see.
