dont know where i heard this but apparantly barnsley vs west brom was played at bramell lane but back in 1912 half of the pitch was in yorkshire and half (or the opposition penalty area so a leeds fan says) in derbyshire. barnsley scored the winning goal in one county and lifted the cup an another this has never been done before. has anyone else heard this and if so where can i get the evidence as i have a deedaa at work who wont beleive me.
sounds iffy, but if we'd won the cup this year, half would be played in london, the other on fantasy island. de'plane de'plane!
sounds daft i know but its a possibility because at the time bramall lane was a cricket ground and county territories were different. anyone else ever heard this
well only yorkshire played cricket there, and that was upto the 70's i think?? my old man once played there, i very much doubt it that part of sheffield was in derby, but? you'll have to dig some old ordnance thingys out
Dont know if its true, but I have heard the same Cant see that Bramhall Lane was partly in Derbyshire tho`!
Yorkshire and Hallamshire maybe seems more likely.. (dunno) although sheffield was in derbyshire at some point, I think it was before 1912 though..</p> </p> </p>
It's possible... ...if you go far enough back. Extracts from a thread on the Sheffield Forum. 1. 'It's not 'Strictly' correct to say that "parts are in derbyshire" at White Lane, there is a 500 metre strip, where the supertram runs in Derbyshire, alex... (but then again, as the supertram runs under the shadow of Tinsley viaduct, at Mad-as-hell, *that* section, for a few hundred yards, runs within Rotherham's metropolitan boundary) the districts of Gleadless ( the Base Green - side), Intake, Hackenthorpe, Birley and Mosborough were originally Derbyshire, but Sheffield's boundaries now are (to my knowledge) all inside Yorkshire now. As you go south, to Eckington, when you just pass Mosborough, you get the sign for Derbyshire, just as you leave Sheffield. edited to add:- no, alex, my ex hub's *Birth certificate from 1966* said that the address was Derbyshire, the boundaries changed in the late 60's very early 70's IIRC. I was relating that, at the time of his birth, that side of Gleadless Townend was still Derbyshire'</p> 2.'And before that the Derbyshire border was at the bottom of the moor. Little sheffield, the area around the old Lansdowne/Locarno/Music Factory/Bed was a little village, in the derbyshire countryside noware near sheffield itself.' </p> </p>
if this is true then barnsley are historic never been done before with any other club yet not many people know
RE: I dont think so. nt not sure exactly, but there could be some truth lurking in glynnfuddy's post. I'm sure I read somewhere that there used to be a boundary that was about where the A621 is now. If you follow its path into sheff in a stret linerunsthroughthe middle of bhl's pitch. (dunno) </p>
That's wrong It's who is the only club to win the FA Cup in Yorkshire? Your question has a number of possible answers.
