Need to have a extension fitted so I can have my internet box upstairs. Can anybody recommend anybody and how much would it cost?

    Cheers.

Was just going to post the same.

Extension cables are risky as well. If you ever had any problems the first thing they'd ask you to do is remove it.

    That's the thing..

I did, and for some reason the signal is always Low/Very Low.

That's why I thought I'd get the box back up here because I've got no idea why it's so *****.

Same old story with wireless mate....

Check it's not near any other electronic equipment (I know it's daft but I know of someone whose Christmas lights were causing interference)
Check the security settings on the router, I've found that WEP is normally the quickest for some reason. If it's set to WEP/WPA that is.
Change the wireless channel to see if you get a better reception etc etc.

But, if this messes it up I never said it.

    Tried most things.

Cheers anyway. Do you know how much it would be to have a new extension fitted though?

You can do a couple of things. I've known your bog standard extension cable work as long as you get your filter set up spot on.

But if you're talking about hardwiring from the master socket I ant got a clue mate. Depending how much it is you may be better getting another socket fitted upstairs.

Try the networking kit that uses your mains supply

plug in your modem into the little box supplied plug it into the mains. Other box plugged into the mains next to your computer then your internet lead into the box. bish bash bosh

RE: Try the networking kit that uses your mains supply

Its a netwrking kit that uses the mains loop. You get 2 boxes in a basic set up. one plugs into the mains and then the modem plugs into that, then anywhere else in the house you can plug in the other box, then your computer into that, but you may need a router box i'm not certain, they do em in maplins you can get extra boxes as well.

    Thanks alot.

Just used one of those extension cables on a reel to test it out and my signal has gone from Very Low to Excellent. But, now I'm close enough I may as well plug my box into my computer rather than using wireless.

    :)
