It's the transfer window for God's sake. If I were chairman/manager of a club and another club came in for one of my players, I'd make damm sure everyone and their mother knew about it. If the player was going to leave anyway I'd want to make sure I got the highest possible offer, so I would solicit offers from all over rather than kep it secret. Not sure if they have confidentiality agreements or anything like that but I don't understand how these things can be kept secret when the selling club has a duty to its board, fans and bank manager to get the best possible price. The theory that we can do a "secret" deal for a player without any other club knowing about it seems a bit far fetched to me. Any views?
It shows with the Bury offer. No mention of it from Barnsley (or there wasn't) but Bury release a statement to explain they turned it down! The selling club will do it to a) keep fans at ease and b) to try and create a bidding war.</p>
Agreed Now everyone knows he's available and even if we go back with a higher bid (which we shouldn't) there will be an auction and someone will pay over the odds
Still cant understand why go public with williamsons and not this kid from Bury. I think he just wanted to score brownie points.
Totally agree If it was important to keep things secret there can be very few explanations for releasing details except to appease fans, score points etc
