Without looking at the history, I would imagine we have had more seasons battling relegation as opposed to being at the top end of the table. especially as we have spent more of our time in the 2nd tier. However, I can't recall a season like this one for a turnaround in form. Leicester have achieved something similar but over 2 seasons.

For our more mature supporters, the playoffs are a relatively new fangled idea... Like the back-pass rule.

As a "more mature poster" my answer would be - no.
Having said that I've been drinking at our Cricket club all afternoon so my memory might not be that reliable just now!

Not true. We have never had to apply for re-election. We came near to it at the end of season 1965/6 and almost went bust in the following season before Messrs Buckle and Dennis bought into the club. That was our nadir but we were never in the bottom 4 of what was then division 4 at the end of a season.

The 2.seasons '80-82 were very special and obviously '96/97 but this season is unique, so the answer is no.

We have never had to apply for re-election. The lowest we have ever finished in the basement division is 16th.

I wasn't sure when he asked for "mature" posters whether he was on about age or maturity in the literal sense. You've just cleared that up for me :D

Didn't think we'd ever had to apply for re election ,I know we were relegated into div 3 north when there were only two divisions but I'm unaware we ever had to re apply from 4th div.

nothing mature about it kid, the play offs were introduced in 86-87, and the so called back pass rule was introduced in 92-93, which was the brand new Premiership season.

I can't ever remember a season where our league position has been transformed like this. Or a run of results to compare with what we've experienced.
Back in the early 80s, it may have been the promotion to the 2nd Division year, I think we went something like 16 unbeaten and went tu Huddersfield who were on a similar run and lost 1-0. But I'm pretty sure even that run wasn't as fruitful in points or as dramatic as what's happened this season.

I got that one wrong then. I was sure we'd finished bottom, my memory isn't what it was. I know we signed Barry Thomas & Johnny Evans about then or the following season.

We've twice had to apply for re-election to the Football League with the last being in the disastrous 1910-11 Season. Our place was never really in doubt and makes the Cup win 11 months later even more remarkable.

I remember that season and I went to that Huddersfield game.
I started watching the reds in 1973 but I can't ever remember being bottom at xmas and 6th in final month of the season.

The closest i remember is a few seasons ago when Flicker took over and we had that amazing January onwards surge, managing to stay up on that unforgettable day at huddersfield.
I think we were probably in a worst position then with more ground to make up.
But I would imagine we have picked up more points in second half of this season than we did then.
